Good Morning!
Thanks Kathy, its only about 6 shingles, and for once I'm happy that they went over the old shingles.... no wood is showing! I dont know if its the same guy or company that put the roof on 5 years ago thats coming to fix it and went over the old shingles, but that would have been my landlords call, for once a good decision. I never thought I would say that. taking off more than one layer of shingles SUCKS!
Kathy / Martin what did your weather station record the wind speed at last night? the weather network said 65km/h wind gusts here but there is no way that is accurate. it had to be 100+ I could hardly walk in it.

Good Morning!
We clocked a 72km/hr gust yesterday but we only get snapshots every so many seconds. Environment canada was saying gusts in excess of 100km/hr were expected. It sure was windy!!!
I am glad that is over. And i am glad we replaced our roof with metal-last time we had wind like thatbwe lost 4/5th of our shingles. So we put metal up at the same time as we were building the barn. No problems since!!

Good Morning!
the wild turkeys were as close as Iv seen them to the house, they were a lot closer before I came out to take some pics. I count 26 so they have lost 2 birds so far this winter. I think they are doing great! how many more days until the season opens again? LOL.
Edit.... April 25th, 104 days away I hope there is the resources to keep them here and that I dont scare them away before then.

Good Morning!
HAHAHA that would be something to see. my birds might be calling them up cuz they were all out and gobbling up a storm. my main breeder toms, Tom and Jake were at it again so they may have been wondering what all the fuss was about.
do you want one or a pair to run around your place there Ross? I have a few younger ones destined for the freezer...

Good Morning!
We have lots of wild turkeys around here to and up as far as Ottawa. Gleaning the corn as it comes out of the snow.

Good Morning!
Well I was playing around on the computer today after feeding and watering the birds, never a good thing, and ended up placing an order with Performance Poultry for May. I mainly needed a few more Mottled Houdans, as I only have a trio, and they are hard to find, but figured if I was going to drive down to pick up birds and had to make it worth my while, so I ordered a few other breeds..... I am expecting 1 or 2 breeds will already be sold out, but as long as I can get my Houdans I will be satisfied.
Don't worry Baron the other chickens I just ordered were mainly female chicks just to add some variety for eating eggs.... I ordered Mottled Houdans, Exchequer and Brown Rose Comb Leghorns, Whiting True Blue chickens, lavender and white guinea fowl and 4 Black East Indie ducks just for fun!!

Good Morning!
Cool stuff Jim! I've never heard of the Whiting True Blue chickens so I had to look them up. they were developed by poultry geneticist Dr. Tom Whiting and not for the same reasons most chickens are but rather for there feathers for tieing flys for fishing.
they lay lots of big bright blue eggs! they sound very productive, I wonder how big they are and how well they dress out. I bet he created them so that the hens laid those bright blue eggs and the cockerals were turned into flys, they have to dress out decent, I cant imagine the meat being wasted. hmmm
