Christmas Chicks?

:( You win some, you lose some. Hopefully the one is healthy! Don't feel like you did anything wrong by only turning twice a day. That's all I do, and it works fine. Maybe a little TOO well this year!
Fingers crossed your house chicken is healthy and a pullet :

Well the Christmas chick is alive and well and living in my living room. the kids named her Chickadee cuz of her soft Chickadee sounds. the kids just love her, she'll prolly end up a lap chicken. shes a Wheaton Maran.

I need to work on my quilt....I can NOT have any chicks right now. SO I WILL ENJOY THE PICS OF YOURS - LOL )

Christmas Chicks?

Post by Home Grown Poultry » Sun Dec 25, 2016 9:42 am

Wow last night Chickadee was going nuts when all the lights went out and everyone went to bed. yesterday was her first time in the brooder, I kept her in the hatcher at 95º since she hatched. holy crap she was chirping away just like a lost chick... come find me! I tried a small stuff animal which seemed to make things worse, I then tried covering the brooder with a blanket but that didnt work either. then some how in my sleepy state I remembered about the mop head "fake momma hen". I didnt have a clean mop head handy at 1am so I grabbed a touque and a pipe cleaner, wrapped the pipe cleaner around the top of the touque and hung it beside the heat lamp with it almost touching the ground. well lil chick climbed inside and went to sleep and so did I. man was I ever happy about that, I truly thought she was guna wake the entire house up and give me a headache.

ingenious! thank you so much to whoever posted about that mop head hen a while back... it works!
