Yep just want it done now. Its been such a long long wait....time to get out to the barn and get my chicken turkey horse barn cat fix....

I haven't had a bird w a frozen foot in a long time.

My biggest pet peeve on the farm: I go out to do a job and something breaks. Then the choice...do I go for parts and fix it now, or work with something else and fix this later. Big red has been hard to start in winter the last two years so I suspected it was coming. But the Kubota....

My patience is like a gas tank...when I run out...not good. I've gotten better at taking things in stride...but I still get too impatient especially while driving.
Back to the farm...new stuff is expensive and some of it is less durable than the old stuff. At least the old stuff is simple to work on. But the markup on stuff...ridiculous. If you can wait you can order stuff online and have it shipped often half price but most time that's not an option.

Or I can quit complaining about machines and get a horse.

Horses. Wonderful creatures. Once you teach them the dragons hiding under everything are harmless.

Snow blowing all done , barn critters all fine . I haven't closed the top of barn Dutch door yet 4x4 . Kids all arriving for early Xmas & last feral cat gone . Have a good one . Luck is being prepared .

Well the bad news is Rockey the rooster has frost bitten wattles already and it's only December! The good news is his dad Dick the light Sussex is already dubbed from the prior 2 winters and is happy as can be this time round!

KB I'm jealous of your olive egger pullet, her sweet little sister is laying an average brown egg! I haven't had a green or blue egg in months despite the couple of Easter eggers finishing their moults recently....

Good day everyone, was a little icy this morning with the freezing rain, and going down to minus 21C tonight but then warming up for most of the week. Gave the birds a bit of lightly fermented feed today and some extra corn to help keep warm.

The birds seemed fine with the cold last week, but I noticed today my roosters in my bachelor pen (all big single combed) have frostbite on comb and waddles. The couple roosters in my other pens, no frost bite yet. Looks like I will need to get some more ventilation in my bachelor pen. I already give minimal water and remove it, using snow as main source of water for the birds, to keep humidity down but will add some more ventilation now.

Any suggestions what to put on the frostbite to promote healing and decrease risk of infection.
