Good Morning!

Post by WLLady » Tue Dec 13, 2016 10:30 am

Morning all! that's great news JimW!!!! whoohoo!!!! congrats!
snowing here...no sun. but that's okay. tonight is shaping up for chilliness!!!! -12?! guess we'll see just how good my heated dog dishes really are.....see how many are frosted up tomorrow morning.
so far so good, nothing frozen this morning at -5.
lab move is DONE. over. thank goodness. a few things left to unpack, that will take maybe 25 minutes.
i think most things are set now for getting people back to work. yay!
our one dog refuses to go anywhere except on the driveway with all the snow....quite irritating. wuss. the snow touches the precious tummy....awwwwww. and the other one won't come back into the house because we have snow!!!! LOL. he's a lab, he loves the snow.
it looks really nice, all nice and white, and not muddy anymore :-) i do love the first real snowfall of winter.
(not so crazy about the cold though...hope all my chickens have their feathers growing in FAST!!!!!)
hope everyone has a great day!

Well I got a good look at the chickens this morning. Was dark when I got back from trip yesterday so I just stuck my head in and said hi lol. My last two barred rocks have just begun molting. My poor niece that looked after them loves chickens but knows nothing about them. She thought she was doing something wrong from the number of feathers that showed up yesterday morning. One poor girl is feeling pretty bad and may be naked by the end of the day. Will have to see how she fares with the temp drop tonight. Really don't want a molter in the house!

LOL ross, that's great! although, both mine are fixed too......but the GSP is a wuss. in the spring he won't go on grass, he NEEDS snow...because he's used to snow. and in the fall he can't go on snow, because where'd the grass go??!!! sheesh. and roll in the snow? not a chance in heck! not that one! he'd probably freeze solid and still be whining!

i have one rooster that martin noticed is moulting-the sides of his neck are pretty sparse. but so far he seems just fine....lol. hope your girls will be okay happy! i also have a bare shouldered hen...but she is a spunky little thing and runs around everywhere, and eats like a horse and works it off, she's almost 3 years old and goes like this every fall, so she knows how to stay warm. thankfully.
i'm actually enjoying no heat lamps, no little ones in the basement, no incubators on, no coops to check outside....
just still trying to evict the sparrows from the barn. i might resort to spray foam next....there was only 1 up there last night.....

Sparrows will eat the spray foam :) Tried that at my old place, trying to keep them out of the eaves without major expense. They just thought I'd put in a buffet just for them lol! It will work temporarilythough, and they'll nest elsewhere for a bit.
Congratulations, Jim!

Argh!!! We have resorted to throwing things at them and madly waving brooms around shovels to scare them away....maybe if i harass enough they will get tired of it....too cold for spray foam now anyways tonight....

If you put the mud on correctly there's almost no sanding she said tee hee! When I did my training course I was told to consider doing it seriously. I still hate it.

Another trick is to dampen the sponge side of a window squeegee and drag it down the seam before the mud is dry. Will work after it's dry too, providing it wasn't laid on too thick.
