That sucks about the fertility issue, Al. Likely just the season, eh? You've bred these specific birds before?
As promised, here is one of my grow out/breeding pens. This is the small one. Measures 8' x 3'. It has 1/2" x 1/2" wire on the floor. The enclosed end has cardboard on the floor with a good layer of shavings to allow the birds to get off the wire and provides a spot for them to lay their eggs. They can get out of the elements as well. I used to have 1" x 1" welded wire on the sides but a short-tailed weasel slipped through and devastated my flock once. Now it is covered in 1/2 x 1/2. The roof height is low to prevent head and neck injury if the quail flush.
I built a new pen for my black east indies but...... Now it's used for more quail. It measures 12' x 4'. It has the 1" x 1/2" wire floor. The floor is better in the winter as it allows the
