Good Morning!

Post by Ontario Chick » Sun Nov 13, 2016 11:50 am

Good morning,
Sunny and lovely here, got the cockerels separated from pullets, pullets immediately dug themselves in to a dust bath, presumably first time they can do this without the randy males getting in the act, they looked absolutely blissful. :)
Took DH & chain saw & garden tractor with trailer in the back to harvest some pre-christmas greenery, perfect day for it, glad I was there to keep an eye on the size of greenery, I was thinking branches, DH was thinking largish trees.

As the countdown at the top of the page is ticking , just a reminder to all, Poultry Admin and KB put a lots of time and effort in to the preparation of the show and Troy was kind enough to offer his time and expertise, so lets give them something to work with.
Also a good time if you are in touch with folks who don't frequent PTO often enough to let them know we have a poultry show happening. :iheartpto:

If yu got a small pen 30/30etc put um in & feed & water in there till they settle down . Just like halter breaking a foal or calf or leash trading a dog . Takes & can't do all at once . Luck

Beautiful day for mid November. Trying to get my perennial gardens cleaned up before the snow starts. Cut the grass today, crazy!!! Don't think I have ever cut the grass this last in the season, usually last cut is before Halloween. Collected a bunch of greenery from my trees out the back and replaced all my Fall stuff in my few planter with them, trying to get it done before it gets too cold. Hard on the hands if I don't. Got the bottom of the barn ready to move my EO's down for the winter, am not moving them down until I know were are in for the colder weather, they love going outside too much. :chicken peck:
Hope everyone had a great weekend :D

i will be submitting 2 turkey pictures....1 tom and one jenny.....i have photos, they're crummy, but they'll go in. and a few birds. i think people will get their entries in last minute. LOL. like me....i think i have all my photos taken. i wish my wheaten marans boy wasn't moulting. he either stands with his wings out, and looks amazing (without the cinnamon triangle) or he stands properly and all his white underfluff shows at the top of his legs. sigh. i really want to enter him though, because i want the feedback on the conformation.....oh well. i think all told i will have 8 or so enteries....too bad 4 of my lines are not APA recognized. i'm glad this is a free show! lol

caught my foot doing fencing today, and it was a close call about whether to go to emerg or not for a few minutes there....sigh. but the divider pieces are up for the turkey pens, just have the front and the top to go. 12 foot tall fencing is NOT easy to deal with. it will be great when it's all done. but snow is coming, and it's been ready to fence for a month now...time to get a move on. hubby is sick too. sigh. and we are totally late on the photo contest for this month....so please everyone submit your photos soon! we have extended the 15th deadline to next weekend....

need some honest advice about an air rifle for picking off pigeons in a barn......or a pellet gun or something that will not puncture the steel....i'm seriously ticked with the wild birds up there spreading who knows what. today i found a starling dropping with a roundworm in it in the aisle of the loft, not in the pens thank goodness, but still....it could have done that in a pen too....i just don't know. so i guess everyone will get a dose of piperazine before winter freeze up. gah!!!!!

really windy here....cold wind too.
alright. gotta go and make sure i plugged the electrics in again. i had them off for doing the fencing...nothing like hitting electrics with a 12 foot wire fence piece with the electrics live!
hope everyone had a great weekend.

i find a body shot with pellet gun is useless unless you disable the wing (poor bird). a head shot is great but hard to do. you can get darts for a pellet gun and that takes down a pigeon but it likely punctures the steel. you can also get bird shot in a .22 bullet casing and its great for pigeons but I don't recommend lead pellets in the barn (unless bismuth is available)
