Poultry Breeders' Invitational Auction

The 2nd annual Poultry Breeders' Invitational Auction will be this coming Saturday, October 29th. Viewing starts at 9:00am and the auction starts at 11:00. All sale birds will be displayed in bright show cages so that you can give them a good look over before the sale. There will also be many top poultry breeders around to ask any questions you might have about the birds on offer.
The sale will take place at the Paris Fairgrounds in the Poultry Building.

This is s cash only auction, so make sure you bring some money or stop at the convenience store ATM around the corner from the fairgrounds.

This sale is put on by the Brant , Elgin, and Great Lakes poultry associations.

I think I just had a sugar rush from reading that list! My understanding is that these are all show quality birds? As in the kind we dream of owning?

It's our hope that all of the birds are good. I have seen some of the sale birds at shows this fall. Most will be out of parents that were shown. That's not to say they will all go to their new homes and start winning shows next year. A lot of work goes into the care and preparation of a bird that you see at a show. That same bird might look totally different under the care of someone else. So we are not going to guarantee that all of these birds will show well next year. Our goal is that they will not have any disqualifications that would prevent you from showing them or their offspring. If you want to breed poultry to show, there will definitely be lots of birds that will be fun to work with. A lot of the consignors have shown their birds successfully over the years.
Not sure if that actually answers your question. I believe that it will be the highest quality, top to bottom, sale of poultry in Ontario this year.

P.S. Is anyone else seeing a picture of a turkey where you are trying to type?

haha yes there is a turkey there! its Killerbunnys Beltsville from winning the monthly photo contest.

it really sounds like there will be some amazing birds up for sale! I recognize many of those exhibitors, top quality for sure!

Oh Killerbunny now you have my head spinning with so many possible jokes with your "turkeys are taking over the world" statement, mostly thinking about if you know who were to win the U.S. election!

But we are taking away from that fabulous fabulous list of chickens!!! I want to print it out and send it to Santa. Why must I be so far from everything! I hope someone gets pictures and prices to review after for the people who can't make it.

AT the OPB show a pair of call ducks went for $165 each I believe?

There is a $25/bird minimum bid at this sale. We had to have something like that in place to make sure we got the quality we were looking for. If they don't bring $25/bird the breeder takes them home. A lot of birds sold in the $25-$35 range at last year's sale. The high was $100/bird for silkies that sold to Quebec.
I should also mention that it is a cash only sale. There is a variety store around the corner from the fairgrounds with an ATM if you spend more than you brought.
There will also be coffee, hot cider, muffins, etc available. Hot dogs if the weather cooperates.
