Yeah I moved some and made sure they had all kinds of places to hide or get out of the way but I had one nut determined to stick it's head out through the wire so the bird next door could peck it. It was crying and carrying on complaining about the other bird pecking it but still determined to stick it's head through the wire. I finally had to chase it back. I should have taken a video, I guess some have to learn the hard way.WLLady wrote:QR_BBPOST Tonight i went to the barn for chores. I put 3 new girls in with 2 old girls yesterday and tonight the littlest one is in a recovery pen. Sigh. Some birds can be right jerks.
Hopefully she will be okay. As soon as i removed her the other two got picked on so they went back to their old pen for their own safety. The other ten or so i moved yesterday are all just fine....go figure.
Yay for good mamas kb!!

Good Morning!
good morning all! well, picked on girl is up and eating and drinking and wondering WTH am i in a dog crate? LOL. she's doing okay. still looks awful, but at least she isn't bleeding and the redness of her skin is going down. i think she may end up going with the chicks to the new place in a week or so, a custom hatch headed home
she can rule the roost over the munchkins...she's way too timid...but probably will do fine with some younger birds. i'll test it out before though to make sure!
so i head to the barn to check on her and all the free ranging boys are in the rafters of the barn, i have no clue how they got up there, or why...just "hanging out". most of them sleeping, some of them trying to chase the starlings (yeah, like that will ever be successful). the only thing in the barn was the cat with a mouse, so she didn't chase them up there, but the cranky rooster was on the floor, so maybe he chased them all up there? they're all on the slate for processing this weekend anyways.
so svart hona hatch update. i opened the incubator to refill the water and OMG THE STENCH!!!!!! gah!!!!! so i dug through all the eggs in there, and sure enough the one svart hona that i had candled before it went in and i thought "hm this yolk looks funny" is bubbling and oozing and the stench.....so it got pulled out (gently) and photographed and then fired into the composter. incubator smells WAY better now. Messaged the lady i'm hatching for with a couple photos of leaking frothing egg.....so 13 left. only day7 today, so i'll candle on sunday or monday to see how/what they are doing.
hope everyone has a wonderful day. thanksgiving on monday! means a day off work, or another day to catch up before winter comes around the house!

Good Morning!
Hi everyone
Things are bitter sweet right now. No flock to care for, means accomplishing more each day which I need to, but boy does it suck to not hear my quackers and seeing everyone so happy to be let out in the morning. None come running when I had out the back door and no eggs to collect. Very quiet around here. Coops will get cleane out on Sunday, vacuumed and will sit empty for quite some time.
Seventeen years ago today I gave birth to Joshua and I have been nothing but stressed ever since.
Mel was an easy peasy kid, no injuries, no trips to ER, no hospital stays, she just didn't even really get sick. Josh on the other hand has had his face, arm and shoulder stitched up (currently getting injections from the surgeon to try and correct some of it), he's been hospitalized way too many times, had his eye stitched up twice, once above and once below. He's cut his cornea twice in the last 5 years. Hes had H-Pylori, a few anaphylactic shocks and a few trips to the hospital for his peanut allergy. He was born with a small kidney, which has mostly gown to size (almost). He's had 3 ATV accidents, one that landed him in the hospital. There's more, but you get the Just of it, this kid is a walking liability. But with all he stres he causes I can not imagine my life without him. I can't wait to see what he does with his life, he's such a talented young man. He's also a great human, balanced with his moral compass, with an incredible sense of value for other people, himself and his surroundings. Both my kids are stellar beings and I'm so proud to be their mom!!
Today, I made Joshs favourite items for dinner. Homemade lasagna and lemon meringue pie for dessert. His girlfriend is coming for dinner too.
I started citizens police college in Hamilton on Wednesday. Very interesting. We had plain clothes officer from the drug and trafficking division talk to us about what goes on in Hamilton. I am LOVING this program so far and it's only been 1 night. Did you know Hamilton has the worst human trafficking problem in all of Canada? Holy
batman. I had no idea. I know trafficking is in every corner of every city, but to have the worst exploitation was a bit of an eye opener. We saw pictures of inside of houses. Like a 1.7 million dollar home in Ancaster, converted to a slave shed. Beds on the floor. The 'employees' he brought in for the construction trade all stay there. So they go to work, get paid and he takes their money, has their I'D and takes all their cash (he keeps their bank cards etc). WOW!
Did you know it's not illegal to be a hooker? You can solicited yourself all you want, it's buyer beware, because it is illegal to buy sex. We have a very large problem with youth in the sex trade. Anyways....I won't bore y'all but it's very enlightening to say the least and I can't wait till the next class.
Well, that's it for coffee break. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiivng
Oh, I totally said I'm not cooking for Thanskgiving. I'm just so busy and don't have 2 days to cook and bake. So, we are going to Swiss chalet! (We have limits with J's allergies) Wow, so simple. There will be 12 of us for dinner, so we booked he party room and I'm actually looking forward to it. I usually dread the work that's involved ... This year I said screw it, I'm not slaving in the kitchen ... I got a few off looks but I don't care, I'm so busy I just don't have the time or energy.
Ok, I'm off. Later!!

Yep, that's us, Monday appears to be a light day. I've spent every free hour the last week doing firewood: I said "Sure I can supply 9 chords" to a neighbour when I had three ready to go. Been busting my hump to catch up; talk about sore muscles!

Good Morning!
Good morning,
The troops have departed and there is laundry!!!! Mountains and mountains of laundry.
Light drizzle here, but those sheets are going on the line and not coming of until they either dry or freeze, whichever comes first.
Since we hosted EVERYBODY and their cousin for a week, I am completely skipping any sort off Thanksgiving celebrations, although there is a moose stew cooking slowly in the oven (shot by daughter in law in Yukon, brought by son as carry on, it's amazing what you can carry on these days as long as it's not liquid
Not a clue how to cook it so we will see how it turns out, whenever it looks edible.
Expecting cold night on Sunday, so last of the garden will be coming in tomorrow and that will be it for another year, seems like only few weeks ago we were putting the garden in.
Have a fun wknd!
I think we have all said at one point or another; "sure I can supply 9 cords of wood, knit a baby blanket, organize a soccer tournament" or some other version of that, only to think after...really, I volunteered for that????
Thanks for the chuckle!

Good Morning!
Good morning! For another 10 minutes. In ONE hour, I will be off to the Rockton Fair to do my duty on the cash/debit machines from 2-4pm. Time does go fast... as you are busy... with lines at the cashes. I'm on the back gate... beside the biggest parking lot... and around 3:30pm... people come and grab their seats for the demolition derby. Its nuts. A new feature on the cash machines will be a godsend, when a mistake is performed.. we hit delete twice!! Voila!! Transaction cancelled. Before we had to sit there like dopes... and wait for some higher up to come fix.
I'm hoping Gary is back from Binbrook picking up a part for the combine... because hes on the gate taking tickets... and we usually go an hour before hand... and get my gross fair food for the year. Back bacon on a bun.. and Fries from the Lions Booth. Love that stuff!!
I moved the last Guinea hatch from the big brooder box to a pen. They will be cold... because they are on the floor, but they are way too crowded. I put a piece of cardboard against one side... and put their brinsea brooder plate in.. incase some want to take advantage of that. There is also those 2 turkey poults in there. Convinced now that there are a pair. One is big.. one is smaller.
Gary helped me move the rooster condo into them middle room too. So.. the two blue wheaten Ameracauna's.. or EE's or whatever they are are in their own cage. Side by side... so they can still live happily together when they get put with hens in the spring... so I can make more EE's. ( They were together in the pen, that the little guinea's are now in). There are over 40 hens in the layer coop... so they will have a lot of work to do, lol. I will just take my chance and incubate lots... and hope most are fertilized.
The two EO boys from WLLady are currently out of that condo.. running free in the horse/turkey barn. They are liking that. The free ranging mutt rooster, currently with the girls hops up on the ramp off the barn door... and the two EO's can spar with him there, lol. Can't believe that they get along! But they aren't with any girls.. so.
So.... there will be nothing in the end or middle room of the upstairs old farrowing barn. I have a pair of polish chickens in the middle pen.. but they can be moved to a dog crate for the winter, and I can thin out the guinea's when they get bigger. At least all those pens (3) have roosts in them, and the Guinea's are just wild about being able to fly up high. That room will be warmer in the winter, because the cattle lay down in the "L", under them. Hoping anyhow. If its -40C with the wind... stuff will freeze regardless, lol.

Good Morning!
G'day everyone! Not morning anymore...but what a wonderful day. A bit windy but sunny and not too hot and not too cold.
What bvf left out of her post is that her son did a wood working piece that entered at the fair and won!!!!
He has such talent!!
Cleaned out the empty turkey pen this morning and moved the older birds in. Will clean their pen this aft. Feed run done. Found a pool supply store about 3 minutes from us!! Yay!! Decent prices too! Then groceries...then home. Hubby cut the grass. It looks awesome. Once i finish with the pen i have gardens to figure out and the pool framing to finish. At least i know what that meeds now so just a matter of cutting and doing.
Then brussel sprouts need harvesting. And sweet potatoes need to be checked. After that i may go try some deer hunting for the evening. Such a beautiful day!!
Hoping la-chicken will drop in tomorrow if timing works out!
Have fun at the fair bvf!!!
And i dont envy you the laundry OC!!
Happy thanksgiving everyone!
