Afternoon
Finally have a minute to catch up on my PTO reading. Wow, a lot can happen in a couple of days with this bunch.

Lost all but one quail (only had 6) to a rat attack last night. Haven't seen signs of them again until now. I miscalculated thinking they couldn't get through 1 x 1. They dug a tunnel into the coop that I keep the quail cage in. Time to set covered traps and sit out with the pellet gun.

Had my first day back in the orchard yesterday. Did the pear trees, empires, courtlands and nutra macs. Back full days starting Monday. Can't wait to get to the heritage macs and Ida reds and Spartans. Yum!!!

Have to start taking pictures to post of some of my interesting roosters and the blue/ black Ameraucana I hatched this spring (eggs from bodabing). Also some of the bunch of Serama we hatched. Will be selling most of them. Need to get down to about 40 birds for the winter.

Very impressed with the amount of food this group has produced this summer. All that in one of the driest summers we've had.

bert, we pull the kids around on inner tubes in the snow with tractors/snowmobiles etc....and force them to shovel. and build hockey rinks outside on our FLAT land without having to scaffold one side of the rink. it is horribly flat. but not half as boring as saskatchewan i think. at least it smells less like rotting hay....

well, nice stay at home day today working. got next to nothing done, did write up a report on some of our work, but i'll need to put a few more hours in this weekend. supposed to rain tomorrow anyways.

yes, cannot survive without a garden. good news is, i heard lizzie was to get some injections into her back, hopefully they help her. they helped me quite a bit, and i will have the next set next month, so. i think we both just know if we stop we're done. we'll never get going again. so we don't stop. i think that's the key and the secret. do NOT stop.

think i *might* have found a used crank cocking aid from a fellow on OOD. we have just started measuring the crap out of my bow and his aid, to see if they'll fit! lol. fingers crossed.

As a kid the best hills were in a golf course that wasnt far from our house at all. as an adult I went to take my kids there n its highly posted no trespassing and fenced off... Really! whats a kid supposed to do? I pulled em around behind my lawn tractor last year and although it really wasnt fast enough for me they had a blast.

We delivered 3 more of those boxes today, visited with a few people. one asked for a turkey for thanks giving cuz she thought it would be cheaper than a store, I had to explain that high quality comes with a high price and she would have to take it alive. the look on her face was priceless, but our hobby is not cheep.

were happy just getting paid back with meat n eggs and since that racoon attack production has pretty much stopped and the meat dept is quite lacking. frustrating but thats life, you win some and you loose some.

Morning everyone

Sitting on my front porch, it's covered, as it is spitting rain and very windy. Wind helps with the humidity anyways.

Josh left with a triple axle trailer that has one of our machines on it - needs repairs. 10 mins later he's back in the driveway. He gets out of the truck and has something in his hoodie moving around. My curiosity is definitely engaged. He pulls out buns. Apparently going for a ride on the trailer. What a bunny! Lucky Josh noticed him. New house rules: check trailers and machines before departing. (Took so long to get back because you can't just turn around and head home with a huge trailer and machine lol)

Rain day for the forecast today. Think I'm make some soup in the crock pot. Potato leek and homemade bread. Lots of work to get to as well.

Ava seems to of turned a corner. She's really good with the chickens, buns and ducks. If she's even thinking about it, I just tell her off and she's on her way. The cats are a different story, Tiggs tolerates her shenanigans but coon just swats the heck out of her .. And usually Ava doesn't take a hint until her nose is bleeding. This cat dog relationship is going to be a work in progress for a while.

This is going on while I write this: with reminders of 'off' of course.

A lot of animals at the auction yesterday. People sure like to offload this time of year. Pullets and hens galore!! Not a lot of people there bidding. At least 3 times the animals as people.

Yep: that reminds me of when Molly (my photo) the pug first went in the house and saw my mom's cat. I don't think she ever saw a cat before (she was a year with a family who neglected her basic needs: exercise and education) so she walked up and was nose to nose with the cat for about a minute (other pugs and the cat (choupette: i'm not a cat person so to me its "the cat") ignore each other). Since then they've been good friends. Now she protects the cat from Merlin, who will grab the cats tail if he can get away with it (such as when you pick up the cat).

Our new toy came home last night. A customer gave hubby a Massey-Harris Pony. It needs work but it actually runs LOL! I'vve always wanted a little tractor.

Morning all! Already a quarter inch of rain and more on the way-well actually more falling from the sky right now..... My leeks are looking amazing!! Tomatoes still going like crazy. Got bacon yesterday so blts for lunch. Yum.
Learning this whole ph and pool thing...testing kits. Hm. Good thing i am a scientist lol. Actually very easy. Hubby was in the pool trying it out. Thought it was great.
Feed store run today and lumber to get too. And my fencing finally came in for the turkey pens. Yay!! Gotta go pick that up too. Hoping to get those in soon....guess i better take a tarp with me to the feed store....dont need wet bags.
Little fuzzybutts are growing like crazy!! 3 weeks old and flying already from the roost across the pens. The one week olds are getting wing feathers and tails. Amazes me who much they change every day.
Guess i should get going. Hope everyone has a great day!!

CONGRATS KB! I looked up that tractor... he or shes a Canadian, born in Woodstock sometime between 47 & 57. what a nice little machine! heres some more info on it from tractordata.com

Glad your Bunny returned safely home Sandy! thats crazy!

my dog has and still does have a great respect for cats. she was pretry much terrified of them and kept her distance. that was until the kittens were born here. she was like oh no... these little things are crazy and have claws but these kittens want to play, that left her very weary of there intentions. it took a while but now the kittens and Brena are best buds. they play, follow each other around and can be found sleeping together. quite cute really.

Kathy we got a 12', 1700 gallon round pool half way through summer. it took me forever to figure out how keep it clean and stable. no amount of chlorine would keep that water clean. a neighbor down the road, same one who gave us the bunny, she gave us a saltwater pool filter and swears buy it, she also gave us a sand filter. I hooked up the sand filter to our pump, drained and filled the pool back up. I got a floating chlorine puck holder and mini chlorine pucks. I put 6 in once a week, that water is crystal clear now that summer is over and to cold to swim. but hey I finally got it figured out. LOL. I may try the saltwater next summer its supposed to be much cheaper and of course much better than straight chlorine. lots of learning curve though eh.
