Yup... a storm is coming, although its been downgraded since last night. We WERE supposed to get upwards to 10-15cm of snow... turned to ice pellets, turned to freezing rain... turning into rain.... but now its just supposed to be about 5cm of snow... ice pellets... then now, I just got an alert... a freezing rain warning. I hope we don't have too many hours of that stuff. Hate ice!!

I have a Dr. appointment at 2pm.. hopefully the roads aren't too bad at that point, but I only have about a 6 km drive, lol. Nice at times living close to town.

So... I guess I'd better get out to the barn, bed the cattle extra heavy...and get some firewood into the porch. Most of the 'ready to burn' stuff is completely outside stacked, while the latest stuff is under cover, lol.

AND tell Gary to get the generator started, and gassed up, incase for some reason I have to get it to the house, and running. I can't start my rototiller anymore, I'm so weak.. so hopefully someone will be around. And like FRF's hubby... he WILL be out in that storm salting/plowing the roads. His route is right by our door... so IF I need him, hopefully he can swing in. Of course, the GPS's in the trucks track his every move.... and hes had to 'explain' himself, more than once. Even if its a swing in to use the mens room, lol. Sheesh.

Morning

I hope everyone had a great holiday!! Good family, good friends and good food! It was nice to come home and do a head count and see that none we're lost! Phew lol!! Good job Josh!!

I got 2 silkies from Doug The Chicken Man ..pictures coming soon. They're in quarantine but I don't expect them to stay there as long as my last quarantined Silkie, nice clean healthy birds. Thanks Doug!

I'm sorry if I'm not responding to anything I should be in certain threads. I still find the unread or active topics to be a lot so I just click everything as read and I'm sure I'm missing a lot. So don't think I'm being rude ... Just haven't managed to get it to a smaller sort through list yet. Jeesh we're a busy bunch on here.

Snow coming!! Yippe. +8 tomorrow. Not fair! Can't even keep my snow long enough to play in it.

New roof on Silkie pen tomorrow to fix the damage from a wind storm earlier this summer, so we're just going to replace the whole roof.

Picking up 3 Silkie pullets Jan 3rd to add to the flock and then that's it! Except for Ameraucana eggs in the spring when a Silkie hopefully goes broody. Incubator free home. I don't do chicks!

Speaking if Ameraucana I saw some of OC's in the flesh. NEED to add a few of those one day to the flock. Even more beautiful than in the pictures. And I don't think chickens are particularly good looking to be honest, but these ones made me say wow, they're beautiful. Oh and of course the real RIR's I saw at the show. Ok. Rambling, outta here.

Have a good day

Morning everyone! yep, the generator will be gassed up and ready here too....the wind is already picking up down here, it can't decide south or east or north east or what. the horses are all skittish and the cats and dogs are following me around the house, being clingy. we have one, oreo (cat) that is usually extremely independent, would rather be out than in, and she won't leave the step outside the door this morning. i'll bring the chicks into the house from the brooder if i need to....the wood stove is warm, and we can run the house on the generator, but we can't run both the barn and the house. so i'll go out and chore as it starts....just in case. and hopefully it's all fear mongering LOL.

congrats on the silkies Sandy! oh-did you see....there's silkie roosters for sale ;-P yes, i am an enabler...LOL

alright off to close a couple of gates, and get some warm water to youngsters, and put some hay into the barn stall for the horses. not fair to make them eat outside in yucky weather. although, they'll probably prefer to stand out there and get soaked anyways.
have a great day everyone!

Thanks ... I have a Silkie rooster but thanks for POINTING that out lol!!! I'm disciplined. No more roosters. I'm anticipating babies at some point in the future ... Roosters then I'm sure. Then I'll have to figure out the whole inbreeding thing ..is there such thing as inbreeding in chickens? Ok don't answer that ... I'm not ready for the flood of info I know is coming!! Robbie, back away from the question you genetic smarty-pants!!!

Well you know something is coming WLLady when the animals are skittish, they can always sense something coming. Two of my dogs used to give me the heads up when a storm was brewing, both hated thunder. One has passed now and my 15 year old JRT is pretty much deaf and can't hear them coming until they are on top of us. Thankfully the 3 year old Rotti X isn't afraid of anything, a stressed dog makes for a stressed owner!! LOL

Yes Sandy I have a few silkie cockerels for sale, nice little dudes

Good morning, Sunny and pretty in White here, had our Christmas dinner yesterday, just in time for a bit of white on the lawn after all.
Water frozen on the surface in the black rubber water dishes, so the heated waterers went in this morning, latest ever I think.
got the best "hostess gift" ever :), have a safe one.

absolutely amazing gifts Ross and OC! they're wonderful all of them!!!

got the generator running. okay, i didn't....i was "moral support" while my hubby got it going...the gas in the tank was i don't know how old, probably at least 3 years...so we burnt it through and it's got fresh fuel now, and is in the warm barn, so hopefully if we need it, it will start. lol
moved some hay :farmer: into the big run in stall for the horses, hopefully they'll figure out that they can get out of the weather if they want and they won't have to starve (yeah, right). i'll follow that with some oats later tonight just to entice them inside if needed. they're the weirdest animals. i know they like being out on the lookout for predators, but come on! freezing rain...get yer butt inside! lol. they're too big to lock inside though, they go nuts if they can't see out.

yep. strange animals. never had a lab try to get underfoot while trying to start the generator....gah. they're both now snuggled up to the woodstove. firewood is in....a nice big pile. and we got the truck and car into the barn! yay! and the tractor. whoohoo! new bale to the field for the horses. AND with that even got the front page updated for the forum LOL. wind has really picked up now, out of the east, and has a definite bite to it..

i need another coffee.... :sFun_mornincoffee: (every time i see this emoticon i think of you robbie!)
