Car Quest building on 15 south (Lombardy Avenue) Will be there Saturday though not sure yet what time, and Sunday 8-4. Some pretty cool stufffor sale so far, not junky at all.
Thank you all forthe kind words. Baron, I never buy beans so I have no idea what they're worth at the grocery store. I was using an online resource for organic produce pricing that lists beans at $4/lb wholesale...I accidentally doubled that when I just wantedto get rid of them while still fresh...and there are beans for sale at several stands up and down that road. But I think you're probably right....jack the price and suddenly they're the Cadillac of veggies. BUT, I would rather people be able to eat affordable nutritious food than making profit. I like to see people eat :D

Jan...you're killing me. Profit is not a dirty word. (Are you the child of a union boss? If so how many $ per hour is your time worth? I figure $10 per hour for gas in a car and $10 wear and tear. So your round trip to Smiths Falls is maybe $40.) Not to mention the veggies that fail the "freshness" or "sale worthy" test. Sell for a good price: then give some away to a food bank, or women's shelter, or homeless shelter. i can still see the yard full of birds you have...your feed costs are astronomical, ya gotta make a few bucks somewhere!

I spent three summers on a vintage tractor: 30 degree heat, long days making hay, pull rope on the round baler. My dad made an off-hand comment "we work hard so city people can eat cheap food." That hit me like a punch... and in a world where people don't appreciate good food. We eat crap from a box too often (too busy to cook...yep...a lame excuse) and get sold crap by big corporations: there's a thread I started a while back on Food Fraud... If we sell good food, we deserve a good price....and we shouldn't apologize for it.

Then I thought to myself I wouldn't get sucked into the commodity trap, if I would be a farmer in some way, I would grow something and sell it as a value added good for a fair price.

You should do nothing less (in my opinion).

Hahaha no, my mother was a homemaker until Dad passed, and he was a member of musicians union and piano technician's guild, which don't count lol.
I know what it's like to be hungry or have to live off garbage 'food' like Mr. Noodle. And, I never expected to sell beans in the first place since the market is a little flooded, and I think beans are gross starvation food lol. Chickens won't eat them :-D
Oh, I know what my feed bill is, almost exactly 14.25 per day, includes pigs and cows, almost double in winter. But I can also go out on any given day and grab my dinner, no grocery or gas bill. Makes me very happy to see a yard full of food, and that's priceless

I trade eggs with the veggie man down the road for the things I don't grow and I see the work he puts into them. He sorts them so that only the perfect ones are for sale and is always working on his lot!

morning all! still loving this weather! at least the humidity has been down the last couple of days.
I needed shavings, so i called my local tru hardware at glencoe. i get my feed there. they delivered a skid 30 minutes after i called (when i told him it could wait until later this week no problem) AND they stacked them for me....OMG i love these guys! just absolutely super. and they didn't bill me to deliver AND i can pay the next time i'm in! and they will also deliver my fencing when it arrives in a couple of weeks. i'm getting 8 foot deer fencing to make the turkey pens out of. So this weekend it's a trip to the hardware store for the lumber, so i guess i better get the plans drawn up! Absolutely super guys, if anyone is looking a feed store down this way...something to be said for the customer service.

nice little bonfire last night, sitting under the most amazingly clear sky and bright stars. i love living in the country.....way better than TV!
If anyone is looking for something to do our community bbq is on the weekend. have to reserve ticket NOW though. it always sells out!

Have to get my corn still. and didn't get a darned thing done in the garden yesterday LOL. There's always tonight, or tomorrow. there's my round tuits talking ross! my freezer is almost full with the vegetables! all set for the zombie apocalypse. this pokemon thing seems to be quieting down around the university again, thank goodness. Haven't had anyone walk out in front of me for a while now.
