Chickens to fight malaria

News topic on the BBC saying a study in Africa showed that keeping a chicken in a cage at the end of your bed kept the mosquito's away. Any one else heard of this?

That's interesting. But a chicken in a cage isn't going to get all the mosquitos. But I get the concept for sure.

Yes, it was on CBC last night "as it happens".
The species of mosquito that transmits malaria does not bite chickens so chicken pheromones repel these mosquitoes. http://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/as- ... -1.3691297

"When people talk about something "passing the smell test," it's usually not literal. But in this case, it is — and it could be a big deal.

According to a new study, scientists have just discovered that the distinct smell of a chicken — a living, pecking chicken — is incredibly effective at warding off a species of malaria-carrying mosquitoes. "

Well if I lived there I'd have a chicken at the end of my bed, if it keeps away malaria it's worth it.
