Anyone interested in a well written witty and generally informative article on small wind power turbines, this is a good read

Thanks for the article. It really opened my eyes to wether wind is viable or not.

I was/am interested in this from the viewpoint of constant trickle charge to my battery banks in my home...the solar works splendidly from late Feb to late Oct but in the dead of winter Mr. Sun lets us down in that dept.....I still don't know enough and the turbulent air thing has me on the hunt for more info...its windy enough here at ground level to prevent my doing an open fire burn quite a lot...and i mean a lot, so I'm sure at 80' or more up there the airflow must be pretty good...so much to know...and these folks seemed to want us to know the details...I thought it worth sharing

Yep sure is Tom & they sound honest about it . I'm referring more to the large scale ones I've got down the road . All for the taking just have to dismantle ;-) Luck

In your case Tom is running a generator/charger setup to top up on those days . Is it not feasible or to expensive ?

Ross, i have an automatic generator hookup to the system...computer controlled to start the genny when the voltage in the batteries hits a certain level...runs on propane..during the winter months it runs a fair bit...depending on the life being led in the household the batteries run the house for about three days..if the sun is non existent then thats how often it runs to do the recharge...goes about 7 hrs ...i am going to calculate the cost of the propane over the amortization of an affordable wind generator...i think a 1.5kw unit would do the job nicely...but more investigation is required...
