Good Morning!
Corgrats! Did you get them a pair of geese? Its a traditional German (farm) wedding gift...may the marriage outlast the geese!

Good Morning!
Good Morning,
Beautiful barn Bert, what a treasure to have, bet it's nice and cool in the summer.
FRF congratulations, what an exciting day for them and such great memories. always hoped one of my sons would get married here, just never happened.
Had an excellent adventure on Sunday, BBQ with friends and an encounter with our bachelor beaver on dry land.
The dog seemed to be confused by the fact there was no neck to grab on, which gave the big fellow a chance to stomp off in a bit of a huff.
KB had a little visit with Hamish the Handsome and Useless
and since he also whined and offered wood shavings for her benefit, I now realize that he is not in love with me, he simply prefers the female of the human species to hens.
Time to move the chicks from basement in to the barn, with 30C predicted, I may not need a heat lamp.
Have a cool one!

Good Morning!
Great afternoon and bbq. Hamish is gorgeous! He looks like the picture that a Wyandotte is supposed to look like! Also seems smug!
Mind you all OCs birds are lovely. Very taken with the Columbians.

Good Morning!
Good morning everyone! awesome photos FRF. congrats to you and them!
pulled the garlic last night. otherwise it was going to be in for another 2 weeks and would be past done and gone. finally some rain forecasted for tomorrow and thursday! OMG we need it so badly! i hear other people out west of us are way worse off, HOLY. a couple of days of quiet drenching would be very very very welcome!
rest of the cornish are headed off this week to a good home, and hopefully some turkeys as well. then a few birds to figure out how to get them to dominion link soon, and then pretty much downsized until the 22nd when i think i'll take the gazillion young boys up to auction. my last set of hatches were awesome, 95% hatch rate....and about 70% boys!!!! geez. i only need a couple of boys. i think i counted 40 last night! gah! okay, 2 are earmarked for bvf, 2 blue wheaten boys-either ameraucanas or easter eggers, they're super friendly and i love the look of them! so selected my keepers yesterday, and banded up the ones that are presold, and will sort through the rest in a couple of weeks once i'm sure boys/girls, and probably head up on the 22nd to auction. which means i might be able to stop in and see bvf on the way! and maybe sandy too-or at least meet them up there!
hope everyone has a great day! oh, my tomatoes are ALMOST ready! yay!

Good Morning!
Very cute last night. I had been wondering about transitioning the young poults from baby coops with Mum to big coop. Well I don't have to stress any more. Mother marched them all into the "big bird coop" last night and they all hopped up onto roosts quite nicely except one poor little one who missed the high roost and face planted. He picked a roost more suited to his size after that.

Good Morning!
Awwww so sweet KB.
The two Guineas/keets I got for silkie mom didn't make it. Not sure what happened, but that trial has come to an end.
she found her way to the duckling area (penned in) yesterday and sat there. Out of curiousity I put her with the ducklings last night and this morning when I opened the coop they were all snuggled in with her. She just loves anything that breathes. It will be a short lived mom duckling relationship because they will make a hot mess of her in no time.
Life is short. Found out earlier this week, an old friend (haven't talked in a while) has terminal cancer and is given a few weeks to live. Such a loss for his family. Young kids, involved in the community, just seems so wrong. I woke up today thankful once again that I have grey hair, wrinkles and even ache a little bit from old(er) age. Getting old is a privilege not afforded to all and I'm thankful for each extra day.
Josh will be moving to his Dad's this weekend. I'm a good hour away from work, school and friends. His dad is a 2 minute walk from work, school and friends, a totally logical move on JT's part. As he said last night, he has the best of both worlds, lives in the city and has a country home with his awesome mom at his finger tips when he needs/wants it. Ill miss the comfort of knowing he is home safe every day. I might stalk him for a little while. Haha! That's what moms are for right?
Well I'm off and running. Another day of a huge list of to-do's that is impossible to complete, but gotta get'er done!
Have a great day everyone!!!

Good Morning!
Morning all! already stinking hot out here this morning. our corn is now going brown. awesome. we BETTER GET RAIN!!!!! days of it....sigh. hope jim bought crop insurance. he better have. he was supposed to. guess i should call him. too late to buy now if he didn't.
and tango is sick. eats about 4 kibbles and leaves the rest, laying on the floor, he ate something he shouldn't have i'm sure. if he doesn't pick up today he's off to the vet tomorrow. need this like i need a hole (another one) in my head....sigh. trying to get ready for major destruction and renting bins and getting hay and working and organizing the final part of that estate from last year etc etc and all that stuff and now he's not feeling well. i wouldn't be surprised if my vacation ends up being at home with a dog going through surgery again for some stupidity. gah! and to top it off my hubby's daughter in germany is being a twit, so he's all stressed out about that, and the well pump lost prime last night so no watering for a while until we figure that out. something is leaking somewhere. kinda need that to get water to the barn....and garden....sigh. it's never just one thing. it's a million things all at once! and we're in the middle of a time sensitive experiment at work, and the young lady doing that called in sick today. so either lose it, or don't get a grant in on time. i just want to run and hide under a rock. maybe i will. but i will have to borrow a rock, because we don't have any at our farm. good news is the new potatoes are ready, got a bunch out of the garden yesterday. and peas. and my tomatoes are SOOOOO CLOSE! it hurts they're so close. LOL.
more birds headed out tomorrow and friday, and saturday. then that should be just about it for now. i think. the royal pair are going on friday, the bronze jake is going tomorrow, and cornish tomorrow, and ees on saturday. that should give a few empty pens in the barn.
well, guess i better get going and get her samples dealt with so they will store until she's back in, hopefully tomorrow....and get my stuff done, so i can get this grant written, or grant will head home tonight and then NOTHING will get done there, or i won't sleep tonight, that's an option too.
pray for rain, everyone, please! hopefully this afternoon they're saying (like 30% in my area....) have a good day everyone!

Good Morning!
Good morning,
Hot already, left DH with strict instructions of not doing anything, see him in the garden weeding, don't know how that counts as doing nothing?
going to walk the dog, check on the chicks in the barn and that will be it for the day,
Grass is yellow and tops of maple trees are turning brown, last year I had lovely clover in the chick run, this year there is a row of lambs quarters and absolutely nothing else, I know the grass seeds are dormant but they better wake up soon, I need the older chicks on grass in another week or two.
Have a cool one!

Good Morning!
Watching the clouds build and rain miss us completely again. Hoping for some overnight? Nasty feeling I have another broody Jennie, oh boy these things breed! Jack cut the hay from our 2 acre patch. 7 round bales. saves us a lot of gas and mowing and the wild flowers are lovely.
