Congrats on all new herd additions, very cool moose baby ;)
Got a bit of rain last night, could hardly believe it when I heard it, went to check, half a patio wet, the other half dry, hope it got all the way to the garden.
Have rat trap set up in the barn, so far 3 mice 4 chipmunks this month, crows lining up in the morning to check if there is any barn kill.
This morning huge blue heron in the marsh and another morning visitor...

Mornig y'all

Crazy day yesterday but seems to be my norm now. I did however make some time to go to a movie with a friend. Conjuring 2. Ugh, I hate to love scary movies. What freaks me out the most is it's based on truth. And why do they ruin movies with mushy crap? Serenade his wife with an Elvis song in someone's house whose daughter and home is possessed by demons. Ya. Practical. Pfffft, save the mushy crap for the notebook or something similar. But it only made me gasp a dozen times and watch through my fingers over my face and I physically yelled twice. Some scary stuff.

On my way to the movies I got pulled over by police. Haven't been pulled over (other than ride programs) for at least 16 years. Nope. Wasn't speeding. I was having a rock concert. Apparently not having both hands (or at least one hand) on the steering wheel gets you a one on one with a cop :). Anyways, no ticket, just a precautionary warning and to keep at least one hand on the wheel at all times. He was nice, I was probably a bit to sarcastic but kept my driving record clean regardless. Haha! So as I drove away I cranked my tunes again and continued my rock concert. With one hand on the steering wheel. Saw him beside me at next light, he just shook his head lol. Tune: Journeys Touchin, Lovin, Squeezin.

Dramatically cooler this morning. Cooler day all around. Mosquitos are fierce this morning. This garlic isn't haven't the same effects as last year. Or there are that many more mosquitos this year.

Long weekend ahead. Does that even matter anymore? It's not like it's an extra day of rest. It has become an extra day of trying to squeeze in some more from the to-do list.

Oh! Drove Josh to pick up his truck - brake lines went - so I would normally turn other way to go to movies, but decided to follow him half way and spy in him. Cause that's the type of mom I am  Someone cuts me off so they are between Josh and I. No worries, I give the impatient driver space in front of me. Josh is doing speed limit through town. 50. She is up his ass! She is driving a little Honda something. He's driving a 2500 Avalnche. So we hit an 80 zone. I'm observing. Making sure J doesn't do something like slam on brakes. He would of lost keys right there. Anyways, she is UP his ass. Weaving over centre lane but passing opportunity doesn't present itself. She is from left mirror to right mirror on JT's truck (lane crossing). If he stopped for a deer, Racoon anything, this lady would of parked herself under him and not even had reaction time to touch breaks. JT is doing 82 in an 80. Then she lays on the horn. And lays on it some more. Her hands are waiving everywhere. Ahhhhh hell no! Of course I've missed all my exits at this point. JT turns down a road. She turns too, damn. So I follow because I'm thinking she's a lunatic. I pass her and signal for Josh to giddy up so I can get In between. I slowly come to a stop and prevent her from passing with the way my truck is. I got out to talk to her. I explained that you can not harass people on the road. Besides, You never know where their mom is AND HERE I AM!!! People complain teenagers are horrible reckless drivers etc., and here is one respecting the rules of the road. The whole time she's losing her mind swearing at me etc. (Note: I didn't swear once, kept my cool because she didn't). When she realized I wasn't going anywhere she shut up. THEN I got back in my truck and drove away slowly. Do NOT mess with my kids. Man, I become this different person when my kids are harassed or threatened. I just don't get some people. That behaviour can become deadly in the blink of an eye. Literally. And to involve another vehicle in your impatient reckless driving is wrong on so many levels I can't even count them all. Ok rant done.

Hope everyone has a cooler day!!!

P.S. Big auction in Hagersville on Friday.

morning all!

i can honestly say i need a holiday. from everything LOL. been a very rough couple of days. good news is i did have that NICE AWESOME CAR for the weekend! whoohoo! talk about being underdressed for a vehicle...ripped jeans LOL. it was NICE. a BMW X5...my truck went to out near brockville somewhere for moving furniture with my boss. not sure why, but he washed it...even polished the tires! OMG. now i feel bad driving it on gravel, its dirty already! His car was NICE though...wow. :racer:

so why the crappy couple of days? advertised about half my birds. feeling pretty crappy about it. my layer flock goes sunday morning, the cornish are all spoken for, the easter eggers are spoken for; all the hatched chicks except a welsummer and 2 rhode islands are spoken for....kinda bitter sweet. still have the show lines and turkeys to find homes for....i know the folks taking the birds that have been spoken for, so i am happy about where they are going...but it's still hard. I have a few more to advertise soon. and decided we will keep the horses, i'll just learn to drive ted after i'm all healed up and that way i can work with them again. or i'll just lawn ornament and retire them and watch them as they eat...LOL. and on sunday i had a bit of a mess with some soap i was working on....twisted wrong to grab something and went down almost to the floor followed by 2 liters of unset lye ridden soap solution all over me. the kitchen is clean now....OMG what a waste and what a mess. i am really hating finding out all the things i just cannot do now....sandy, your ducks are really cute....i think i visit those photos multiple times a day LOL

booked my holidays off from work. have to order a bin today to arrive soon, tearing down the falling down driveshed and old barn. too much to burn and the wood isn't even any good, it's got i swear 20+ nails per square inch-the old square headed nails, farrier tacks, modern nails, you name it! we are going to have a job ripping it up. we don't even dare just torch it and collect the nails later, because there's too many....the thing is falling down anyways, so better to get it down before it falls where we don't want it. thinking about getting the local backhoe guy to just come in and tear it over and mash it around a bit to break it up so its on the ground and easier to work on....hm...

well, better go and get doing....miles to go, lots to do. i put laundry on the line and my truck is freshly washed and parked outside, so hopefully that will tempt some rain to come today. the clothes were from the soap incident, so they could use an extra rinse or 20 anyways. WE NEED RAIN!!!!! gah! wish we could just transport some of thunder bays water to here....hang in there muffin!

Good morning,
Bit cooler today, on my way to get more duck starter, no nonmedicated chick starter available, again..... Seems like I go thru this about every 10 years
Never easy to let go of things, Kathy I really feel for you, one good thing you will be able to get back to it in time. And horses as lawn ornaments can't be beat, I speak from experience ;)
Have a safe one!

You know.... I really don't know why I use Kijiji... it just gets me worked up every time. First, someone wants me to drive them to Listowel. In case I ever go. Ya.

Another wants me to call him. From his typed english, if you could call it that, I doubt I would be able to understand him. (ya, I know, wrong to judge, but I do).

another idiot said he would take them all. He emails me June 26th at 9:43pm. I email him back June 27th at 8:20am. So, my second email said... "last chance... do you want these keets or not, if I don't hear from you by noon, I'm going on to the next person". He replied with "Well, seeing as how I didn't hear back from you, I got some from someone else". The history of our emails follows the next sent.

I couldn't help it, I sent him another, and in my defence told him I WAS ASLEEP when he emailed me, and I got back to him the very next morning.

Whack job.

Just had to get that off my chest.

Tomorrow it will be something else.

Well crazy busy week... last week of work before summer holidays, which is great, once all my marking and report card writing is done. My daughter had her grade 8 graduation last night, I am getting old.

Last day of work is Thursday, but then grade 12 grade that night so by around 9 pm Thursday I should be on summer holidays!!! Heading to Toronto Friday afternoon, for 2 full days of Lake Ontario salmon fishing on Saturday and Sunday!!

Caught another raccoon, but not before it killed 6 two month old chicks. :( I guess my little grow out pen I set up was not as secure as I thought. Traps reset and ready for more visitors. I have had some bad luck with birds lately, partly due to predators, partly due to my inexperience/lack of preparedness, next week when I am on holidays, time for some re-evaluation of my poultry keeping plans.

One bright spot this week, Redninja has been incubating 6 eggs for me that came from Newfoundland, 3 of the 6 were fertile, unfortunately 1 hit a vein when it pipped, 2 hatched okay, but 1 was weak and passed away. So 1 chick left, hoping he/she does well and will be getting it from redninja at the BBQ. Ten more eggs coming this week that redninja is incubating for me. Hoping for at least a few chicks from the new batch. Thanks for all your help Betsy.

Here is the one Svart Hona, Swedish Black Chicken, hopefully it will have some SBC friends in the not too distance future.

Wow. Busy couple of days.

Getting incubator ready for more eggs coming from Newfoundland Thursday. Moved some of my 3 week olds to the grow out room. Some more of my own Isbar in that batch.

Finally got our blue wheaten Ameraucana rooster, that was on loan, back home. Quarantine will be tough on him but he needs the rest, good food and time just to chill before going back to work for my fall/winter hatches.

Had a few minutes to get a couple pics of our Muscovy crew. Looks like one silver (yah), 3 blue and 13 black (we lost another one). Will be selling a lot of the blacks. So hard to choose what to keep!

My youngest daughter had her grade 8 grad tonight. Very proud to be her mom.
Chicken ninja's high school grad is tomorrow night. Very proud of her. She's off to U of Guelph in the fall. Where do the years go?

Hoping to get pictures of the new Isbars tomorrow. 5 blue and 1 black. Finally, after 4 years, in a position to breed and sell this beautiful breed next spring.

Hope everyone had a great day!

morning everyone!
another beautifully cool night last night. 10C! actually had to put an extra blanket on the bed. NICE!

opened up a feed bin last night to discover MOLD! gah! i had bought a couple of bags of starter from a different feed store because my regular one was out, and this stuff must have gotten wet at some point. poured it into the composter.
guess what i FINALLY got last night??! my census form! whoohoo! met our "local" agent....lol. turns out they were looking at buying the place next door to us (hoarders live there) and walked in, and walked out. yikes. anyhoo. got the form, filled it in, gave it back to her, and that's that. apparently we don't exist, the address doesn't exist and they need to manually put the address into the computer! go figure. amazing. i got the LAST census form there 10 years ago. AND i got the agricultural form this year, no clue how we got lost....and the first person they sent said they couldn't find the place...lol. um. go figure.

busy weekend coming up. hoping to connect with baron and kenya, and more company friday, and people coming to pick up birds on sunday morning. going to be non-stop. i like that, busy is good.

chicken ninja, that's my alma mater-u of guelph. :-) good university. nice city. you'll enjoy it there!

hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Redninja. Selling the black Muscoveys? Hmmm. Tempting.

Silkie is due today. She took her booted egg back. What a gal. Indecisive. Gotta go and check on the eggs, but not looking forward to having my hand victimized.

Moving the ducks to a bigger play pen. The ducks are growing so fast but are already pea addicts and Another few weeks and I'll introduced them to lavender. They are getting really good at following the bag of peas and few I throw on the ground along the way into the pen/coop for nighttime lock up.

Well I'm off and running. Have a great day y'all!

When we moved here we were told that according to the PO we didn't exist when we went to get forwarding done. Oh it's a new subdivision - no house built 1980 (we are on a dirt road though). The he asked were we sure it's not a new subdivision? I think we'd know what we just paid a load of money for LOL!
