Good morning!
Few drops of rain last night didn't even wet the patio, could have counted the drops.
Lockdown here last nigh, humidity in the house dropped like a brick it's 42%.... figures. Spend 19 days trying to keep the humidity in the incubator down, day 20 can't get it higher then 52%, it will have to do.
Out to spread the rest of the wood chips, at least I have that to keep the hosta gardens somewhat protected from the drought.
Then for a very long dog walk, bring some water to the bee tree (may have some survivors from last year after all) and then I will start the "eggs doing nothing" watch ;)
Have a good one!

We had some rain last night, maybe 1/4 ".

Lock down for the shipped eggs last night. Only took one out that didn't make it. Will be a nerve racking 3 days waiting for hatch. Can't wait!

Let one of our older broody hens, Emily, have a doz eggs same day I set the eggs. She can raise extras depending on her hatch.

Have another 4 hens sitting on eggs(about 50 eggs total) and one more I have been fighting for about a week. I'll let her have some eggs Friday if she's still adamant.

One of our Muscovy ducklings died yesterday. It was the last that hatched, 24 hrs after the rest, and just couldn't keep up.

Will be busy building more housing for the ducks and the brooodies next few days. At least it's a lot cooler and will make work easier.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Morning Y'all

Breaking News: I'm the proud new mom of 2 packed hives. :stars: :stars: :stars: :stars:

So much to learn still, but I'm ready!! Look out beekeeping thread as I'm sure it will become my favourite place to hang out very quickly. I already asked too many questions with BVF last night. This beekeeper that I got them from is so generous with his knowledge. He's 72 now and is slowly downscaling. 150+ hives is apparently substantially reduced from previous lol. Phew!! The hives have a certified inspection on them. I'm happy about that too. But the books are coming out, I have so many questions despite the reading and researching I've already done.

I must admit I am liking this weather. Cool at night, warm but not hot and humid, breezy during the day. Makes sleeping great!

Josh was suppose to go away with friends and their parents for a speedway weekend, this up coming weekend. He's backed out. I questioned him, because I wanted him to get away and be a kid. He works so much and doesn't spend much time with friends like the rest of the kids his age. He said 'I've got a gut feeling something bad is going to happen, so I'm just not going'. I can respect that, so he's home. I'm sure there is a whole lot more in there that he isn't telling me, but if he's decided to not be a part of it, I don't need the details. I just am thankful he's home safe.

The dresser JT made the local family was well received, with many many tears and so much appreciation.

Ducks are swimming in a warm tub this morning. I try to not give them water when it's cool first thing, but they sit in the empty tub, turn their heads sideways, give me the one eyeball adorable stare. So In the house I go and get a warm bucket of water to fill it up for them. Then the shenanigans begin! In the afternoon I empty theyir little tub to fill with clean water and I put the hose nozzle in shower and start to fill it. They wobble back and forth from leg to leg and pace around the outside of the tub. They're so flipping excited they can't take it anymore and hop in and get watered on while I finish filling. Seriously. I think anyone who is having a bad day should google ducklings swimming. Bad day gone.

Silkie has booted one egg into the corner of her box. I put it back under her, she booted it again. Try to take it out and I get yelled at. So in the corner it will stay. I'm assuming she knows something I don't.

Well a ba-zillion things to do today. Better get my ball rolling.

Have a good one!

Cheers

Its a gorgeous morning! Babysitting today. Have to start in 40 so I'd better get to the barn. I did things right up last night, washed waterers, fresh water in.... all 53 chicks are growing so fast in the middle barn, its easy to see for the most part, who are roosters already. Going to Hagersville soon.

Ivomec'd all the turkeys last night, and the rooster condo. Dusted one of the corrie girls... she had alot of mites... and fly strike happening on the other. Stupid flies. Those girls have been out dusting too. Both got ivomec too... to keep the flies off. I know using it on cattle in the summer keeps face flies away better. I hate bugs.

Have to water stuff at the road, and mother in laws house. Something Sawyer and I can do together.

Congrats on the hives Sandy. There is nothing more intensely interesting than how a bee colony works.

I'd better get going.

Have a great day! Pray for rain. The ground is opening up here in spots!

G'day everyone!

holy busy busy day. wow. but finally a spare moment to write something!
Congrats on the hives sandy! i'm still hoping my hubby will go and learn from the guy down the road and then get a hive for the garden. i would LOVE that!

green tomatoes on my plants already! and peppers starting. squashes are flowering. peas will be ready soon. blackberries and raspberries are ALMOST ready! i can't wait. our strawberries are just finishing up. I think my garlic is going to be ready for harvesting soon. potatoes are blooming so new potatoes in a couple of weeks! yay!!

have fun babysitting BVF! no better place for kids than on the farm!
lots of fun coming tonight, rebanding little munchkins that are growing like mad, and moving them to a bigger coop. they're almost feathered in already! some have to go on to new homes in the near future. then a bit of weeding, physio and dinner. then at the end of tomorrow the weekend starts! yay! lots to do! lions bbq on saturday? i think....can't remember....one day....and i need to clean up the barn and process some birds, and replace a thermostat in the scalder, and clean up in the loft....and finish cleaning out the driveshed. and skeet goes off to the vet too....for some blood work. hopefully everything will be good and we can get him onto the arthritis stuff so he can stand up and lie down again without groaning like an old man...he is 11 after all...LOL

alright. back to it. teaching students different techniques this afternoon. better go and do!

OMG!! Suggestion of the day. DO NOT. I repeat. DO NOT read posts from someone in panic mode on their chickens being infested with mites, the walls are crawling in the coop, his dog is covered and he says they keep climbing up his arms and all over. He see them in the house. Potential red mites. Burn it all down then move to a different postal code. I've got major creepy crawly feeling. Ugh!

What a nightmare.

Had the MRI on my knee this am, 7 weeks after injury 6 weeks after requisition sent. So here's what I did, after snotty nurse didn't want to req one and said it was 6 months where she would send me (hospital) I went onto the Ontario wait times list. Found a clinic that did OHIP and spoke with the receptionist. Was told about 6-8 weeks. Got back to nurse and told her to send the req there. BINGO! The right timing because it allows the max amount of swelling reduction so better imaging. Very pleasant and efficient set up. Now to wait for results!

On that feeling "that something will happen so I'll stay home".

Sometimes you have to be "tuned in" to get the message. One day in the late 80's (i was a kid): it was a cold snowy winter's day. My dad gets in his vw Jetta to go to work...it won't start. So he get's in my mom's car (1979 Oldsmobile) goes down the driveway, (there's a hill at the end of our driveway) and put's the car sideways in the ditch across the street. Walks back to the house, goes to Ottawa to work (an hour's drive) with my brother's little Chev truck... And gets hit on the way home (ruining the box).

I got the message... If your little voice tells you something...pay attention. (Magnum P I, the little voice)
