Good Morning!
Good morning!! I haven't been outside yet, but been up since 6:30am. Its going to be another scorcher today. I've been spot watering my onions and lettuce. I haven't planted the rest of the onions yet, but I should. Maybe this evening, when things cool down. They need to get in the ground. Funny, how the veggies look dry, but the damn weeds can still sprout, and look amazing!!
Got lots of chicks in the barn now. Have to clean this hovabator. Looks daunting, I am sure stuff is stuck good to the styrofoam.
Cutting grass also is on the menu. I don't know, if its just me, but HOLY do we have a bumper crop of dandelions this year!! The fluff was literally blowing all over my face/body/and garden of course, when I was watering the onions. I will be pulling those forever.
Well, dogs are barking. Cuckoo better not be here.

Good Morning!
Morning all! Feed store run soon for me...then garden. We ned rain. Desperately. My grass is going yellow. Had to move hay for the horses again already....good news is we had the air conditioning installed on thursday in the house. No more awful window air conditioner units. Yay! Keeps the house really nice. I have to plant today in the garden so i think i am going to water it then mulch and then plant through the mulch. Otherwise its going to just dry to a crisp!! My company coming today will be put to work....little do they know....gotta get this done...guess i need to find my sunscreen too. Teds nose (horse) burns in this weather so i just sunscreen the pink parts lol he curls his lip at the smell but i just tell him to suck it up...lol. then finding crates for the sale tomorrow, make sure i have enough for everyone that needs to come and waterers...going to need water tomorrow if its this hot again for the wyoming sale. Physio and all that....that should pretty much fill the day. Hubby has already made the house smell like rhubarb crisp...yum!!! Rhubarb and asparagus coming out the whazzoo here! Lettuce is almost ready to start picking (and weeding). Love having fresh stuff from the garden.
Hope everyone stays cool and has a good day!!

Good Morning!
Good morning,
Jealously watched downpour downtown on the news last night, not a drop here.
Must put cucumbers in today, heatwave or not, crazy people running a Marathon today, so planting cucumbers doesn't seem so bad.
Lockdown here tonight, 20 Ameraucanas &12 Wyandottes, with the temperature and humidity what it is, I could just leave them on the counter.
All the blooms are of the Apple trees, it was such a short period, wonder if there was enough time to pollinate?
Lilacs absolutely covered in blooms, the whole place is so fragrant, between the pin cherries and lilacs and strawberries and violets, its hard to tell where is the sweet scent coming from.
Have a cool one!

Good Morning!
Bailed on course this weekend at the college. Too much to get completed, I just can't afford to give up a weekend right now.
Silly headache today. Did way too much outside all day yesterday. Cut grass (push mower for me to get the exercise) and I looked like I had just taken a swim at the lake by the time I was done. Weed whacking, hours of target practice and cleaned the small coop and pen. Steak and veggies on BBQ and that was it. I was done last night. The humidity kills me!!
Had to use chopped straw in the small coop last night. Flax seed bedding is apparently gone. Minor bros isn't selling it anymore. I'm being told 'The manufacturer can't keep up with demand'. So throw the towel in? I don't get it. I have to look into this more. I seriously can't imagine keeping coops without flax. The chicks all stood at the coop door after I was done (because they are nosey and very curious little chickens). I couldn't of been to worried about their refusal to check it out because I crashed on couch before lock up time, thankfully J locked everyone up. They were all in there this morning and I didn't see any real complaints from them. It's going to be hard to sort the
in the chopped straw even with my rake fork compared to the flax.
Well, I'm off to flip the compost pile and a few other things outside but nothing like yesterday. My head hurts!! Then hitting the office and getting work done!
Hope everyone has a great day And if someone could get to a rain dance that would be great. Everything is bone dry here.

Good Morning!
Rained here for 5 minutes....now its a sauna outside and the garden dirt is still bone dry an inch down lol. Got the garden mostly mulched. Time to start planting the plants and i still need to run a hose for the second sprinkler. I will have to water everything as it goes in today.....
I was enjoying the spring cooler temps...not ready for 30c yet. But it is nice to be covered in dirt i must admit. Trying to think of some way to provide shade for my birds tomorrow at the sale...hm....maybe a tarp over the cages would work....
Okay. Ice water and then back outside...tomatoes next!

Good Morning!
Glad your getting your garden in!! I cut grass all day. Gary surprized me by staying he'd like to go to Montana's for supper! Wow. We eat out so rarely, I had to look at him long and hard to see if he wasn't losing it.
It WAS hot out, but I kept cutting and cutting and cutting. Maybe I can plant tomorrow... supposed to be cloudy, and thats good for transplants. I will have to water my onions. Didnt do them today. I don't want to make them wuss's... I want them to reach DOWN, lol.
Got the mower washed, and gave the fatties a bit of a shower. The ones that were outside at the time anyhow. They loved it. I put it on FB.
I moved the rooster condo out onto the barn floor. Dusted them first. They were abit light... so figured they were mited alot. Didn't look too too bad, but they all got it just the same. I have to move the rabbits outdoors, and figure out what to do with the guinea's up there. The nice blue's lavendars and dundottes, with a couple pearls and royal purples.
I also want to open my doors to the 2 year old guinea's so they can free roam, but the manure pit isn't drained yet. Which is just water. Sigh. Thats been on the list for years. I've seen so many guinea's floating on top of that pit. Stupid birds.

Good Morning!
Busy busy day....all the mulch down. All the tomatoes in and watered and almost all the peppers in and watered. Basil and parsley planted. Company came for a couple hours in there too (no help whatsoever boo). Fixed a break in the electric fence...feed store run...stopped at friends for cat food (she sells it for less than the feed store lol). Ran out of steam trying to find enough crates for birds for the sale tomorrow. Going to have to steal skeets crate and the 2 old crates in the barn...and a chick carrier....guess i better get up early tomorrow its already past my bedtime lol
Hope everyone has a great night...still hoping for some rain here....and hopefully see a bunch of you in wyoming tomorrow morning!!

Good Morning!
Good early morning, though I have not been to bed yet so stiil really night.
I got back earlier Saturday evening from the yearly High School fishing trip I take a small group of students that I teach on. I will put a detailed post in the fishing section. But here is a tidbit, today we were salmon fishing on Lake Ontario, with 2 charter boat captains I know... 2 boats, 6 high school students and myself. We ended up having a great day catching a mixed bag of chinook and coho salmon with a few rainbow trout and 1 Atlantic salmon and 1 Lake Trout. The fish ranged in weigh from about 1 to 22 pounds. Here is a photo of what we kept. We will be having a class BBQ and smoked salmon lunch in the near future.

Good Morning!
That was actually the original plan before we got this place last November, ha ha ha! We had used the pigs at our old place to 'till' spots, remove weeds like wild carrot, turn up large rocks and loosen stumps, and I had hoped at the time we moved to fence off the new garden area and put a couple piggies in there long before now. But, like with most things in my head, I got occupied by other things, didn't get around to it, and forgot all about it until far too late! I need some of Ross' "Round Tuits". I'll pay for it all summer if I don't get heavy mulch or plastic cover down! Horrible, horrible grass roots.goatgal35 wrote:QR_BBPOST Turning a hay field into a garden. Use your pigs. We have a portable pen and we just keep move the pigs up and down the area to become a garden. They eat the plants and roots, the bugs and they fertilize and plow the land.
None of my pigs are fence trained though, so there would be that learning curve to deal with as well, but *hopefully* we'll be there by the time it's time to put the gardens to bed for winter. Which won't hurt my feelings any if it never comes, I am LOVING this heat. 80-86 F for the last few days, nice cool 65-70 at night, BRING IT ON! Sweating makes me feel like I'm actually getting stuff accomplished LOL!
