Beautiful bunch of chicks!!!!
What on earth do you do with all of them???
Also what are the chicks with a stripe down each side of their back with darker colour in middle of back?
I got a few of these for my brooder and wondered what they were

This is the wild type duckwing chick down, e+. They could be brown leghorns, Welsummers, Barnevelders or ? What are their combs like? I've had some dark Cornish chicks like that, too.
Here's a great link to a chick down discussion:

Thanks Colleen! the striped chicks are my light brown leghorns but that patten has a name and will appear on other breeds. its genetics and well I dont care to learn about chicken genetics LOL. HAHA. The black ones are some other leghorn breed that came from the same breeding pen. again more genetics... LOL. So im guna keep these black ones and see how they turn out. but with the black beaks n legs im sure they dont conform to the APA SOP but I havent checked that out yet.

what do i do with all these chicks you ask? LOL Well im building up a magnificent breeder flock and im guna enter the show ring. Keep the best and eat the rest! We started out with poultry because we like to call ourselves homesteaders. when I finally found my breed of choice, real Rhode Island Reds I became dedicated in preserving the breed. theres not many RIR breeders in Canada like there is in the US and its hard to find real Reds here. Standard bred/Heritage Reds are the best dual purpose bird ever created. they are the best of both worlds, they lay nice light brown extra large eggs and dress out to a perfect 6-8lb table bird! mmmmm hhhmmm!

we havent ate one yet but I have 2 cockerals that would be around 10 months or so that we're guna try out soon!

Thanks again Collleen! HAHA Ross you know it. We had a chicken stew the other day, you know the kind you eat with a fork? about half way through the bowl I ask Lizzie if this is one of our birds, n she said yup it was one she butchered into pieces. man was it ever so good n tender! mmmmm hmmmmmm it must have been one of the EE Roosters. they were nice n meaty birds, about a year or more. quite possibly some of the most expensive chicken ever but man was it good! I still have about ten more to go. I might work on them this weekend...

Have a good one!

Which mystery, the one where the black leghorn turned white, or when Coonhound's black leghorn rooster produced all brown chicks? Black leghorns are weird, it's well known!
