Attack on 2 horses & alpaca
Saw this story on Facebook last week. Not surprised. With the increasing size, boldness and pack behavior of the eastern hybrid coyotes, attacks on larger livestock are to be expected..... About 5 summers back the sport pony that my niece used to ride and compete with was attacked by 3 coyotes in the paddock. This was at a riding stable near the village of Tyrone- north of Bowmanville. The attack was witnessed and warded off by the stable owner and her German Shepherd. The pony was forced into a corner and suffered significant lacerations to her back legs and udder area. She survived after a lot of care to her wounds (multiple times a day), and months of stall rest.

Those little miniatures are pretty tiny must look like easy prey to them. My friends horse was attacked in the run in shed, lacerations to his neck. Only thing we can figure is he was lying down sleeping when they attacked, woke up and chased them off.

Attack on 2 horses & alpaca
Ī had a friend boarding a horse near putnam and coyotes left her hunter-jumper with 2000$ worth of vet bills and 3 years recovery off jumping. The farm owner saw the yotes chasing the horses around and managed to shoot 2 of the yotes. Another 3 ran. 2 horses hurt and a pony basically hamstrung and put down. Yotes came back next day and farm owner got another 1. Then farms dog got attacked and they called in trappers that took another 4 or 5 yotes out in the following 2 weeks!! Bold and daring....
Yotes went after my horses the first year i had them. Ted killed one as it was going after Molly-going after her hind trying to take out her legs...i scared the other off....then they came back next day-chewed into my coop and killed a pile of chickens...then came back in the middle of the night a couple days later and we went after them-chased iacross the field up into the woods with the 270s...we must have terrified them because i havent seen them since. Thank goodness.

Darn things are coming to the barns and house here, guess they will be bad soon enough. I have a happy ending story, one wolf mix came into a farmer's yard after the small animals; however he had an extremely territorial Rottweiler who proceeded to catch it by the throat and squeeze the life out of it.
