If you just lift the lid enough to get your hand in and scoop the chick and get it closed really fast you should be ok.
Given they are slow-leave them in for a few days after. Just in case. If nothing has exploded by now nothing will lol. Fingers crossed for more!!

Day 21 & still waiting for a pip
I did what Al said left chick in for over 24 hrs then had hot water ready. Grabbed out chicks and put hot water in channels
Also wait. Wait. Wait. I thought mine were done hatched. I killed 2 live chicks. Not ready yet. That was I believe 2 days late or longer!!!!
I think my temp was too low causing slow hatch
That's what I learned anyway
Good luck and just be patient
Easier said than done. I know!!

I guess Kathy called it, she said Thursday :) You can leave the chicks in for 24 hours without any problems, once they start hatching they raise the humidity by drying off.Poultryprincess wrote:QR_BBPOST Right now I'm thinking "Tuesday" like WLLady suggested ~ cause I "Live" for STRESS LOL
But will have to take the new chick out, I can't let it stay in there for that long.
Fingers crossed that I don't have to make that decision, that they will want to come out to play quickly (*o*)
If you have to remove chicks during hatching, try to wait for a moment when nobody is zipping, less chance to cause damage to the emerging chicks.

Day 21 & still waiting for a pip
I set up the Brower Top Hatch a few days ago to use as a Brooder.
The temp is a steady 99.5 but I haven't added any water.
Guess I will wait for another 15 hours to set up Top hatch with food & water.
I see 2 eggs with a tiny chip in them...but no movement for hours.
My fingers are crossed.

The 2 eggs with a chip of shell off, still nothing.
Saw a few other eggs with chips off, but didn't see any tooth cutting thru yet.
Had to move the little one to the brooder...it was chirping non stop.
Covered Hovabator with fabric & went in quickly to rescue chick.
Chick has had a few drinks, a
, & food in the brooder.
Put a wick in the air vent of the bator & added warm water using the wick.
Humidity has maintained 65 thru out hatch.
Went to feed store, & come back to see 2 chicks - yippeee
( Blue Showgirl x Partridge Silkie )
Still 5 eggs with tiny chip out...so Maybe???
