Good Morning!

Wllady's quote "i need to switch my week from a 2 day weekend 5 day working to 5 day weekend and 2 day working, so i can get everything done at home! "

i hear ya. I'm self employed (work on appointment) and we bought the family "farm" 4 years ago. My dad did as little around the place as possible the last 35 years. Now i'm picking away at it and i'm getting further behind instead of ahead. I gotta pick one thing and git r done, instead of 20 things and not much done. And I can't afford the 5/2 split you talk about. I've decises to organise "farm work parties" for land clearing and orchard prep; its the only way it'll get done. I am too out of shape for more than 4 hours labour at a time. I have lots of clients who live in the city and would show up for a party like that. Heck I've shown up at a buddies parties working his vineyard. I did some math at the price of food and drink vs labour work done and I figured it was $3 per hour.

that poult sat on his hand for at least 10 minutes....truly friendly LOL. i have a bunch in this hatch that follow me around, love being picked up and will go to sleep on my arm. these are the ones that i had to teach how to eat and drink, so i think they might have imprinted on us. 4 of them come running over when we fill up water and feed. the little boy strutting (still strutting) will strut all around my feet....thinking big at 6 weeks....lol

I don't think he's going to be a royal-i think the coloring is more blue, not light enough for lavender....and the one in martin's hand is definitely red slate, just not sure if girl or boy yet, leaning to girl, haven't seen it strut-yet...

That's what happened with #2. She ran up to visitors for cuddles and would fall asleep on their laps. She is still first over to me!

Love that picture Kathy. Pretty sure I'd label them as pets in no time if that's how they behave. :)

Another great day. Thankfully no chicks died last night. I went to bed early with a massive headache, before the chickens did, and the guys took care of lock up. Except they turned the lights out in both coops. That meant the chicks had no heat all night. Poor little dudes!! They were definitely all huddled for warmth and when I turned the heat lamp on they all migrated to the heat. Gotta keep an eye on them now for a few days. They also got warm water to help warm them up. I went out a few minutes ago and it's a jungle again. Flying around and being chicks. Close call. Watchful eye. Other than being cold last night, that they are growing wonderfully, good looking chicks and very very playful. I finally know happy chick noise, verses I'm lost chick peeps etc.

Anyone need some male Wheaten Ameraucana chicks? Almost 3 weeks old. Kathy helped me sex them (thank you :)) so I'm keeping 2 males and the rest off to the auction on Friday. Odd and unusual auction this week in Hagersville. Good looking wheatens these are I'm told.

Made the executive decision to keep away from hatchery chicks from now on. This last batch of RTL's I got end of September really turned me off. These girls with curled toes, beaks that won't grow back in and poor feather quality are hitting the auction this week. When my rocks hatch out chicks, I'm looking for better quality. I emailed M &S poultry enquiring on some white rocks and bared rocks, but haven't heard back yet. Hopefully I'll hear from him soon.

Hope everyone has a great day. Wednesday! Another sunny day and things are starting to dry up a little around here.

Cheers!!

Good morning,
Still aglow from my road trip, after the Stand up Comic routine at TSC continued due West for a Schnitzel house lunch of guess what? and on to Golden Lake, checked out "Sands" for possible overnight, restaurant closed until May??? headed to Opeongo mountain and Clear lake "resort", bit of a dump, and watched Mennonite children in Douglass going home from school in buggies or on foot, felt like I have been transported to Southern Ontario.
Spent another 20 relaxing minutes in the construction zone going home.... a typical Ontario day on the road. ;)
Kathy, it's all fun and games until Thanksgiving and poultry admin wants a pardon for the turkey (s)
Have a sunny one!

What a nice day!! We had a calf night before last, and its still alive. When I first saw it, I thought twins for sure, but yesterday morning, still one. Must weigh about 50lbs. Early for sure. Well, if it lives, it lives. Not bringing her or it inside. They are both under the big shelter.... where she is happy, and shes keeping it with her, and I see its sucked. I did give it a shot because my stupid cows like to lick lick lick/chew the navel stump. Its infected of course. I can pick the thing up and walk comfortably with it, lol.

Today after chores, I sprayed some creeping charlie back (hate that stuff), and dug a raised bed for my new strawberry plants. I lay down a soaker hose, and covered it with black plastic. Then cut the holes, and planted them. Wasn't going to, but figured may as well, with the coming rain. I planted a few on the downside of the knoll... hopefully the rain doesn't wash the roots bare.

Then went to the road and replanted a couple of chestnut trees, because stupid assholes keep driving their snowmobiles over them. You would think that steel electric fence rods would kind of deter them, but nope. I'm getting sick of planting trees because of ignorant jerks. I WASN'T going to do it anymore, but I keep starting them, and already have two year old trees I haven't planted yet, so figured I would bite the bullet and go ahead and plant them.

Cursing loud enough so the d*&^%$^ across the road, who is working outside, and DID this (saw him this time), heard me loud and clear. Gave me satisfaction, anyhow.

I hatched some chicks day before yesterday and yesterday. Got 10 out of 12 good eggs. Two left... not sure whats happening. Day 21 WAS yesterday, so will leave them until tomorrow.

Came in and had lunch, Gary made a salad, which he eats nearly every day. Honestly, with what I do in a day, I can't see why I'm not thinner. I'd gain weight if all I ate was poop.

Well, time to go to the bus nearly. I want to go to Dam's and get some radish seed to plant, before the rains tonight. All the lettuces are in. Oh, maybe green onion too.
