Good Morning!

Congrats on everyone's fertile eggs and hatching.

I am going to set up my 1 hovabator next week to run to make sure everything is working fine, then put first batch of chicken eggs in on April 20th.

My turkeys are laying up a storm, I still have to build another pen to separate my Artisan Golds and BSWs. My young toms were fighting so I separated them. My best BSW tom is with my turkey hens, my slightly smaller BSW tom how was being picked on is in with my guinea fowl. And my Artisan Gold tom who being at total jerky has been my himself in "turkey jail" for the last week.

When my daughter and I were feeding this afternoon we watched my best BSW tom trying to breed one of my Artisan Gold hens. Not wanting to miss out on the action my other BSW tom then tried to breed one of my french guinea hens.

I guess all the excitement spread and as we were in the house putting eggs in the fridge I looked out the kitchen window and saw a turkey tom coming out of our bush towards our back deck. At first glance I thought it was our Artisan Gold tom and that he escaped from turkey jail, but it turned out it was a nice wild turkey tom, very long beard and quite light in colour. He came up to the back porch called a few times and then ran to the front yard and then flew across the road back into the bush. Crazy turkeys.

Hey folks: here's my results. Started w six dozen eggs (official hatch day was wednesday aft). 20 eggs pulled out when candled on day 10: from three dozen purchased partridge chanteclers half were not fertile; so we informed the seller that one of his two breeding pens had a problem. At hatch the remaining chanteclers all out and strong. The other three dozen were two dozen partridge chanteclers (our own stock) and a dozen a mix of eoskal oilas and cream brabanters. I recall three of these three dozen were tossed at day ten. At hatch only two of the 7 cream brabanters hatched and all else hatched. Decent results overall. Sorry no pics as all the chicks are at Dave's for brooding. He has a better set up and our combined breeding program is off to a decent start. I am in the midst of a barn rebuild and restructuring. The only other thing to note was that the hatch had ended by noon today. It took longer than I would prefer : 22.5 days when all done. No power outages or other issues: temp was 99.5 plus or minus a half. Room temp was a stable 70 degrees I think. Good old sportsman.

Holy Hatch-a-holics. We need an intervention.

I think that's the difference between having coops and barns. I feel much more restricted with coops. If I had a barn maybe I'd be hatching eggs out a little more recklessly.
Not saying y'all are reckless. Wait. Yes I am!

Awesome Paula. I'll have to pick your brain someday and learn the "proper" way to incubate. Lol
