Hired. I have even put that netting up in the holes in the barn wall... that faces out into the lean-to for the cows. And, had it hang down, and I would roll it up every day, to push straw out for the cows out at the walkway. But, boy, that gets old fast. My son uses a pellet gun occassionally, but I guess the one he has, you have to hit them right in the head to get them. Its not a very strong one, and for sure, we don't want holes in the barn roof, lol.

Everyone is busy it seems.

But... one day, if your looking for some fun... by all means.. come on down!! lol.

One day, I took some silage plastic, and nailed it to the roof of the "L". Rolled it up, and tied it. At night, in the dark, I unrolled it, and secured it with straw bales at the bottom to hold it tight. 70 feet long barn.... 24 feet wide.

Then the fun started. With flashlights and 5 gallon pails to stand on.... me and my son caught 80 pigeons!!! I made a million dollars with those pigeons at Hagersville sale.... they sold for $1.25 a piece!! About a year later... caught some more... no where near 80.... but only got .50 for them!! Not even enough to buy ice cream at Hewitts dairy bar, lol.

Thats how many were in that barn. So friggin many... when they were flying around, they were hitting you in the face. Starlings were also. Freaking birds.

I remember when I was a kid there were guys that would come around and ask to catch pigeons in the barn at night......really kept the population down. Wish we could find someone to do it now....but like you said the price is too low, not worth their effort.
Got the bill for fixing the skid loader.....the afterburner on the emissions wasn't working.....1300.00!!!!!!!!!
fired up the little brinsea again....6 ccl/americauna, think the chicks will be auto sexing from the ccl? Hubby said last night all 7 chicks look like roosters....my jaw dropped, ...till I realized he has NO clue, lol Set one purple egg too, couldn't resist

my problem isn't the pigeons, it's the starlings..doing exactly the same thing! i've blocked up their "runway" in the seams where the joins between sheets of metal are, and boy are they MAD. smallest gun i have is a 22LR, and it will punch holes in the tin, so i put the cat in the rafters....she had a great time hunting and after about 20 minutes of harassment the starlings left for the great outdoors. of course they'll be back...but now the cat knows how to get into the rafters ;-P

hubby came home from germany last night yay!
apparently the airport was an absolutely disaster and really really busy, no labels on where the luggage was...thought he'd missed his bus home to london, but managed to get on it somehow-thankfully didn't have to wait until 930 bus! after landing at 430! would have driven to toronto to pick him up, but didn't have to!

cold one last night. but only -10, they forecasted -20 for our area. thankfully not. and the poults all were under the brooder plate and happily making noises this morning when they emerged for nice hot water. at least 1 pip in the incubator this morning it looks like. was hoping i didn't kill all those eggs, because i had one that stuck to the turner, and broke, and had to do an emergency cleaning of the incubator while locking down. sigh. hate when that happens. it must have had a tiny leak or something....or got wet somehow. but STUCK firmly to the turner. ah well. hopefully the ones that made it to lockdown will be okay and hatch well.

hope it will be a sunny day today, warming up a little bit! have a great one everyone!
