In Gail Damerow chicken Health book not sure if it pertains to turkeys,Killerbunny wrote:QR_BBPOST I've given him vitamins this am and he's in a separate pen. Walking backwards with his neck crooked still. Wonder if he took a peck to the head?
Tremors, droopy wing, twisted neck, lameness = Newcastle, common in young birds, rare in adults.
or Lameness incoordination twisted neck, rye seed poisoning or antifreeze poisoning not common!
Hope it's not either, but the twisted neck worries me.

Good Morning!
It's very worrying but there are no other symptoms. He just keeps walking backwards and in circles and is now resting a lot. He is drinking. Been in touch with Cirrus Hill and she can't think of anything that has so few symptoms except poisoning, but no other birds are affected or a "cerebral event" not good. Also the sudden onset is odd because he was displaying vigorously just 1/2 hr previously. I will PM if he doesn't make it.Ontario Chick wrote:QR_BBPOSTIn Gail Damerow chicken Health book not sure if it pertains to turkeys,Killerbunny wrote:QR_BBPOST I've given him vitamins this am and he's in a separate pen. Good Morning!
Have to agree with kenya. Is it possible someone pounded on him-an older tom maybe? Or got his head into a hole somewhere and pulled too hard? You can check his light reactivity in his eyes....if its a hemorrhage they will probably be uneven.

Good Morning!
KB, check his head and neck for punctures, bruising or broken feathers. I had a young rooster do that once, when my dogs were young and still learning NOT to grab the chickens :/. He walked backwards for several days as if he had his head stuck in something, and then periodically walked in circles for about a week. Mr. Frizzle made a full recovery, hopefully that is the case with Stephen!!!
