Not a bad idea BVF! I'd be RICH! But then I'd have a homestead and be poor again.

Anyone think Sandy could go into the mute guinea production route?? lol.

Ah guinea fowl, the love hate relationship. I don't have a lot of experience with guineas, we got 6 french guinea keets in May 2014 after my wife got a tick on her and we found some other ticks when searching our bush. We raised them and released them to free range summer of 2015, added a few more that summer, over time most were eaten by foxes. Last winter keep the remaining 2 penned up with the chickens, not problems with the chickens. Spring of 2015 released the pair we wintered plus bought 6 yearlings, free ranged all 8, 2 hens disappeared, could not find their nests, reappeared with a bunch of keets, could not catch the little guys, ended up eaten by coons, foxes.... 2 guineas killed on the road. I also raised up 25 french guineas last year and hatched some eggs from Bayvista. We did not find any ticks last year.

I over wintered 8 guineas this winter will be letting some out to free range soon, they are penned with 1 of my chicken groups all winter and no issues.

Mine make noise any time someone comes close to the pen they are in as well as various times throughout the day or night, but they are not too load. My wife hates all our birds, so if they were too noisy we would not be able to keep them.

When free ranging ours do travel a fair distance, our property and our 2 neighbours, plus they cross the road and play around the railroad tracks. Our first group of guineas we had when they saw the school bus stopping in front of our house they would run out to it and stand about 10 feet from the bus door, I always watching thinking one day when the bus door opens they are going to hop on the bus.

This year when I raise up a few more young ones, I want to raise them in a pen in our bush, so maybe when I release them they will spend more time in the woods and eat more bugs in there.

I love the guineas, they are dumb, but awesome at the same time. I need to add some more coloured one to my flock this year.

Were they all French guinea fowl? Just wondering if that variety is less noisy.

Good Morning
My Hubby just preformed a mini intervention. I was outside chipping the ice off of my windshield so I could go and get me a chicken. Hubby comes out and asks what in the heck I'm doing because He thinks driving 123 kms one way in the freezing rain for a chicken is a wee bit crazy. Maybe he is correct, so I will go on a nicer day. Stay safe and have a good one :)
