Posing a bird for a picture

I am hoping to take photos of a few birds for the online show this time. Planning on setting up photo booth in my garage then carry the birds into the garage let them rest in dog crate for a bit and see if I can then get some photos once they are calmed down. Not sure how my plan with work, especially with the turkeys.

SPent yesterday pm with the turkeys freezing to death trying to get pics. The "common object" caused chaos, they spent ages circling it in curiosity / threat display egging each other on to close in and kill it. Net result, no pics!

Is it any easier if you put the can, or whatever object you use, behind them? Would that make it harder for the judge to determine the size of the bird?

Shnookie in my experience you just hope the can is in the picture period, cause in most cases they are having none of it and are trying to escape or are hunched over trying to hide.
Multiple cans in different corners worked the best for me.

Darn, 2 cans, why didn't I think of that???
Although not being the soup can kind of person, there was only one can in the cupboard and I am pretty sure it was the same on I used last time, the color is starting to fade a bit.
It was a bit scary how many pictures I took and how few are actually any kind of representative of what the birds look like in real life.
I have one that is missing feet, no other usable of that variety although the next picture is of the feet only, wonder if I could send in the parts separately ? :)
Another one, pretty much the best one I have in my opinion, doing a very credible impression of "Scots Dumpy" and no amount of encouragement would make her stand up....

Scots dumpy perfect description! I gave one a bath shes beautiful but noooooo can't stand up for a picture so far just a scots dumpy photo.

yup the ones I still need to photograph took a mudbath in the warm weather yesterday!
