Because box 1 and box 3 statements tell me that the box statements are lying. Box 1 says the car is in this box...but box 3 says no it isnt so i do not know which of those boxes are correct....both may be lying...box 2 says it is not in this box so if it is also lying it must be in box 2. Therefore box 3 statement is the only true statement-it is not in box 1 and there can only be 1 true statement because there is only 1 car.

Only box 1 is lying the other two statements mean it's in box 3.

Can it be box one? No. The statements below boxes one and three would be correct. But our instructions tell us only one statement can be true.

Can it be box three? No. The statements in boxes two and three would be true if the car was in box three, so it can’t be there.

So, through process of elimination, box two holds the car. This means the only true statement is the one below three that says the car isn’t in the first box!
