I get 36 this is how I did it:
first line 1+1+1+1=4 times first line (1) 4x1=4
Second line 2+2+2+2+2 =8 times second line (2) 8x2= 16
Third line 3+3+3+3+=12 times third line (3) = 36
But I'll bet there are other answers. These puzzles are weird, you probably have to be an archeologist (hieroglyphics) expert to get them.....

I got 36 in a different way:
1+1 X 1+1 = 2*2=4
2+2 X 2+2 = 4*4 = 16
3+3 X 3+3 = 6 x 6 = 36
