Mink in The Loft

Post by PigeonManNick » Tue Jul 24, 2018 5:40 pm

Hello all, I just wanted to share my past week with everyone.I had a mink come into my pigeon loft and unfortunately kill my whole flock of white homing pigeons. The adults were killed, babies were eaten, and any eggs were destroyed. It was very disheartening as I had spent the past year selecting which birds I wanted to breed. The loft has been fixed and there is no visible way for another mink to get in. I live in the city and we have a small creek that runs behind the backyard, which is what I'm assuming attracted the mink in the first place. I'm looking for some new birds to begin another flock. If anyone has some pigeons available please let me know! Thanks

Oh no, how awful :( I never thought minks would climb, :sSig_censored: ! I had a mink "visit" once, and was very lucky that it only attacked one bird before the dogs killed it. I don't keep pigeons, I'm sorry, but I hope you are able to rebuild your flock :(

aw crap, i'm so sorry to hear!!!!! darned mink...they get everywhere! i have seen them run straight up a brick wall when i worked on a horse farm-we had mink (didn't mind though because of the rats and mice getting into the feed-pre-chicken era for me). and destructive killing machines.
i hope you find some replacement birds....

you may take a look around the loft and see if there's any holes about the size of a nickel that they could access....if they can squeeze their skulls through they will fit....

Thanks for the support! I'll be sure my pen is secure and reinforced before I put anymore birds in it.
