The eggs are delicious.

Do it!!! They start laying eggs around 7 weeks old. Eggs are good eating, the birds themselves are even better eating. I am just ramping up my quail breeding groups now.

We have been buying quail eggs to eat from someone out in the Clayton area, and I agree, they are delicious. The best part is that hubby really likes them. They are supposed to be super food to boost your immune system, which is what he needs, They are also purported to help improve memory.
Anyway, I think they're interesting birds and hubby seems receptive to keeping them.
I will need lots of advice from you quail experts, I think. First thing we need to decide on is housing. Realistically, we will probably not be ready before the snow flies, because we still have outside projects to finish up before the weather turns. But it'll be fun to plan and learn about them in the meantime.

They are super easy to keep, mine has laid an egg every single day without fail. My male is nice and quiet and that's why I kept him the others were very loud and noisy. They sound like something out of a horror movie. My friend got some hens from me for her granddaughter who has terrible asthma attacks. Since shes been eating the eggs her attacks are greatly reduced and the ones she does have are reduced in severity. She has an egg every day. Shes 5 years old.

@kenya , good to know that it's possible, but not common, to have a quiet male. I have listened to some YouTube videos of the noise that many males make, and you're right - it's really piercing.
Interesting about how quail eggs can help people with asthma. I wonder if it might help people with COPD too.

The eggs were very fertile as well, heres a picture of my first hatch, they hatched like popcorn.

There is a natural anti-allergen (antihistamine?) in the egg white. There is no money in it for drug companies so legit research is minimal, but there is numerous stories of folks who swear by them for allergies.

If they were a natural "viagra" i'm sure they would be more widespread and popular.
