Canadian Buckeye Club

There used to be a whole bunch of fans of the breed around, wonder if there are any active anymore. ?

baronrenfrew @ Buckeyes

I read about buckeyes and Lay and Shumaker were often referred to in the US. In Canada, Chrystal McKinnon but the link to her site is not working now. Maybe she stopped breeding them.

Crystal dispersed her flock a couple of years ago.

I have returned to a lady in northern Saskatchewan for hatching eggs (2 out of 18 hatched) and I purchased 2x 2 dozen from a lady in BC (first shipment was roughly handled - 4 broken, 6 soaking wet...ONE made it to lock down and hatched); second shipment just had first candling and 8 out of 24 are showing development.

I have ONE pure roo & a 2 year old pure hen plus a crossbred hen, 2 SLW, 1 White Chant and a SLW x White Chant all running together - threw in a dozen eggs and 10 are developing well. Of the 6 hens, I'm getting 4-5 eggs daily, so if nothing else, they *should* make great cold hardy, BYM layers lol

Must be disappointing to have the eggs broken... Too bad it's so difficult getting chickens across borders... I'm glad you were able to hatch some!
