Is the donkey for protecting chickens? I was considering getting a donkey but I have never owned an animal that has hooves and I'm not so sure I can take proper care of it. I have a friend that was a farmer in Argentina and he said if you get a donkey it will protect your livestock better than dogs. He had both dogs and donkeys.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Donkeys Over Guard Dogs
Like donkeys, specially trained livestock guard dogs can also protect flocks from predation. However unlike dogs, donkeys are not prone to wandering, providing the fences are well maintained. Donkeys live longer than dogs and with proper management producers can expect donkeys to provide 10 - 15 years of productive protection. On average it will cost less to purchase and maintain donkeys than livestock guard dogs since donkeys will eat primarily home-grown feed.

How you thought of a doney sanctuary? They often have them and will help with the cost. There is one just outside of Pepperlaw or something like that...Hamilton area. Anyway, just a thought.

Yes that's true, but they also cover lots of costs and help with medical bills and you will always have to a place if you need to return the donkey. Good luck in your seach.

I guess they are all pets?
