Looking to get a dozen or two hatching eggs for true blue eggers. Pet quality birds are fine, but want very blue eggs. Closer to Chatham the better, but could pay for some shipping or something too. Would also be interested in a couple of mature birds but not too darn old. PM me and we can talk. Thanks.

Ameraucanas. That's how to spell the breed name. Just saying. Anyway, @WLLady has stupendously beautiful Wheaten Ameraucanas ... Pretty sure they lay blue eggs.

Thanks Jaye. Might be she has, but if I am not mistaken they lay blue green. I shall check with her.
And just checking. Is the s on the end plural it or is that the correct way, and plural would with an I on the end?

I would go with Ameraucanuses!
Ameraucana would work fine too since IMO it's really an adjective? Don't get me started on what reporters do to the Queen's English.

You may consider Bantam Ameraucanas, their eggs tend to be much closer to the ideal vivid blue color.
Although I did raise "true" Ameraucanas their egg color was closer to aqua then blue, and the bluest blue eggs I ever had were from Performance Poultry Easter Eggers so it's a bit of a crap shoot anyway.

Yes, you're right: 'Ameraucanas' is plural for more than one; 'Ameraucana' is the breed name.

I got Ameraucana hatching eggs from the chickenvilla a few years ago. I still have two of the hens. They lay blue eggs, not blue green, but it is not really dark. I'd say medium blue.

i have ameraucanas that lay blue eggs. they are wheaten. i also have easter eggers that lay blue green because they were a project from some olive eggers and they are also wheaten. when farrier wanted eggs last year he got my easter egger line which are various shades of blue and green
my wheaten ameraucana line was suffering from not enough gene pool so i cross bred to a wheaten marans line and just this year i am back to blue eggs after weeding out the non sop birds. i am still not happy with the lines (a bit on the small side) but may have some pure ameraucaunas for sale later in the year. right now anything i sell is sold as an ee because i am still not happy with the line....
everyone is wheaten or blue wheaten....just an fyi on my lines this year

I also have pure Ameraucana. Eggs are a soft sky blue. Paler than I expected/hoped. Taking pics in natural light, but in the shade, does wonders for the egg colour in photos. lol...just saying. I have a young rooster now....but I will hatch out a batch at home before I offer eggs. He's crowing and dancing, but have yet to see him cover the ladies.

yeah i found my pure wheaten ameraucanas laying blue are really really light blue. the most vivid are the early pullet eggs where they condense all the large egg blue into a small wee little egg LOL. wish i could get them laying a robin blue egg....now that would be something! and i vote we go for "ameraucanases" for the plural....sounds like a lord of the rings kind of name LOL
