Registration is now open for the 30th Annual Kemptville Winter Woodlot Conference to be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the North Grenville Municipal Complex!
Join us as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Kemptville Winter Woodlot Conference. We’ll journey through time in exploring how our forests and their management have changed over the past three decades, and, likewise, consider what’s on the horizon for our forests.

This year’s keynote speaker is Peter Kimbell, Warning Preparedness Meteorologist, Meteorological Service of Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada. Peter has been a meteorologist with Environment Canada for close to 30 years. He has experience in forecasting for marine and aviation clients, the military, and the general public. Currently Peter is on assignment as the Manager of the Ontario Storm Prediction Centre in Toronto. The title of his presentation is… Weather Patterns in Ontario: A Look Back and a Peek Ahead

2017 Nut Growing Events

WINTER TECHNICAL MEETING
FEATURING: A day of presentations from professionals, farmers and hobbyists. Anyone wishing to speak at this day long nut growing adventure are welcomed to call Bruce Thurston at 519-740-6220. All members and visitors are welcome to attend. The only prerequisite is an interest in nut growing.
DATE: Wednesday, March 8, 2017. (Please note Wednesday not Tuesday)
TIME: 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
LOCATION: The Simcoe Experiment Station Hall, on Blue Line Rd at Highway 3, Simcoe, Ontario. From Hwy 3 on the east side of Simcoe, drive north to the open gate turn left to the parking area and side entrance.
COST: Registration at the door, $20 includes lunch. Call Bruce Thurston at 519-740-6220 to let him know how many to plan for.

SPRING AUCTION MEETING
FEATURING: Nut trees galore and more. Trees being auctioned include hazelnut, hardy Persian walnut, ultra northern pecan, hickory, heartnut, sweet chestnut, pine nut, ginkgo, and hybrids including hicans and buartnuts to name a few. As a change of pace, an assortment of unusual fruits and ornamentals may be auctioned. Tree seed also may be available for the grower wishing an added challenge. Each year is different.
The Spring Nut Growers' Auction is one of those rare events you won't want to miss! Members are encouraged to bring things to auction off. Please contact Ernie Grimo at Grimo Nut Nursery if you plan on bringing more than ten items.
DATE: Sunday, April 30, 2017
TIME: 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Members and visitors are always welcome. Cash or cheque only.

2017 Ontario Hazelnut Association Eighth Annual Symposium
The theme of this year’s event is “The Future of Hazelnuts in Ontario” and the program will explore the path the OHA is taking, in partnership with Ferrero Canada and the University of Guelph, to significantly expand the industry over the coming decade.

Leading the development of the hazelnut sector in Ontario

By working collaboratively with all members of the value chain, the Ontario Hazelnut Association is encouraging planting of hazelnuts in Ontario to serve new markets. This new crop for Ontario has enormous potential, with interested growers, strong suppliers and engaged buyers. The Ontario Hazelnut Association will continue to develop new markets for Ontario hazelnuts and their products through agronomic knowledge, cultivar development, economic analysis and public advocacy
