Information Spring kidding - in expectation!

Forum rules
As per Ferrier1987: You are supposed to post pictures when you post about your baby goats. Its a rule here. I just made it up as a rule, but its now part of the forum rules I have decided.

Spring kidding - in expectation!

Post by muffin » Wed Jan 11, 2017 10:41 pm

Anxiously awaiting our 2017 kidding to begin. You would think that with over 50 years of goats kidding that it could become somewhat...routine. But it is NOT! Every kidding is in hopes of the next best kid EVER, for show or production, and never a boring minute. Things to prepare for new babies...lots of space ready in the kitchen for new babies -YES they ALL come into my kitchen for a few days, I bottle feed them ALL, and this is my bonding time! I would keep them longr in the kitchen, but my husband only will allow so much...so a few days then out to the barn. First does due will be registered La Manchas, then the registered Nubians, followed by more La Manchas. Hoping for a heavy doe kid crop, as I hope to keep most of them. Buck kids will be for sale, as I have no plans to keep any buck kids this year ( but if that special La mancha buck is born, I may make exception for ONE buck kid!) :grbud: :giraffe:

I LOVE baby goats! We have two on the ground, born last thaw spell, and expecting two more, literally any minute. That's it for the year, more than enough for us!!! I *might* bring one of the ones now expected into the house as a bottle baby, if one is a girl...I need to think about keeping a replacement for "Ma" , and I want her very friendly. Both does getting pregnant was quite accidental, as I didn't want winter babies, but the girls had other ideas. I'm grateful they've chosen milder temperatures to kid in and not -40.
But at any rate, post lots of pictures of your does as they get as big as houses, and lots of baby pictures!
