Because I could not find the older thread on using items for a new purpose...
It is a lid for a wide mouth Mason jar for sprouting. I tried sprouting seeds, liked it, and moved on to a better system. Now I use it for sprinkling D.E.

I use something similar, although a bit more diy (aka didn't want to spend money on it) : I use a mason jar covered with a plastic mesh bag from a 3-pack bag of garlic purchased years ago. It works really well. Like you, I have since moved on to another system, but still use a mason jar to soak my seeds in water overnight and strain off with the mesh bag cover.
