Post by Colleen Kinzie » Fri Jul 09, 2021 2:53 pm

Hi
Going to try butchering our roosters
At what age does everyone butcher their roosters
They are Easter eggers and are 3 months old
Thanks

I did my BRs at 24 weeks. Came out around 4lb. EEs may not have the meat on them at that age. My Salmon Faverolles around 16 weeks were <3lb but OK for us.

Ok. Yes you are right. I’d be lucky if they weighed 4lbs live. Lol
They are going through soooo much feed now
Might have to rethink butchering them 🤔

i do in all my extra cockerels at about 20-24 weeks. doesn't matter the size....usually the leghorns have zero on them (they do at any point usually)....if you get them onto a good grower/finisher ration with a bit of corn you can put some weight on them to make it worth while.

Gamebird Flight COnditioner (aka Yummy food) works really well. Costs a bit but zero waste because they love it.
