Processing 40 chickens this weekend!
We are almost half way through processed 13 of 40 meat broilers yesterday. I'm so proud of myself! I didn't think I could do it but I got through it just fine!
Tried a really cool trick with a grain bag to replace a killing cone. seemed to work out great. Just slit a small hole just big enough for the head to fit through put bird in and hang up.
Here are some pics of our set up and finished products

Good for you! We processed four not-so-nice roosters last weekend. It was my first time doing it and I know what you mean when you say you're proud of yourself. I didn't think I could do it, but I ended up being able to do everything. Very thankful for the food those boys will now provide us with.

Good job!! We have long used feed bags for the poultry. Them mesh feed bags are perfect to do turkeys. Nice and big!

GOOD for you Frances!!!!
There have been a few times when I was by myself that I had to do a "Mercy" kill
Didn't like it, but knew it was my duty...so I muscled thru it.
We would take out birds to the Ontario slaughter house.
Came home with a box of chicken that looked like store bought, only $2.25 per bird.
One year I had 4 aggressive roosters, which would rip @ me whenever I was in the coop.
My son said he would kill & process them for me.
10 minutes after he killed the roos, his phone rang.
He was called in for emergency work & had to leave asap.
OMGawd, "I" was stuck processing those birds.
We are both Big City folk & have never been around people doing it.
( hubby can't handle processing & hid in the back 40 - ha ha ha )
Took me almost ALL day, but I did them.
Couldn't eat chicken for a week, because the thought turned my stomach.
BUT if I need to do it, I can...I say Koodo's to anyone able to do it.
Looks like you are doing a GOOD JOB!!!
