Morning,

I'm considering a dog that is in need of being re-homed. Wouldn't be my German shepherd that I long for again, but none-the-less she needs a home, one that I'm able to provide. Looking for personal experince or knowledge of the breed.

She's a 6 yr old Sheltie. She has a history of seizures which I can help her deal with. She has some neurotic unnatural behaviours which I'm confident will be removed when I get her back to being a dog, which is my first focus.

Shedding? Anyone have them around livestock? Temperament I don't worry about because I'm alpha and she will have a clear message of her expected behaviour.

Lovely breed, do like to herd the livestock but good with them, extremely smart ,Easy to train. Shed big time twice a year good in between whereas the German shepherds shed allllllllll the time.

My Aunt had a sheltie when she (the aunt) was very elderly - wonderful dog and a great companion.

She is coming for a 'trail period' on the 16th. She howls apparently. So if it's earlier than the rooster it won't work LOL. But I think its pent up energy that once I get released she'll be much more balanced. Fingers crossed. I already have made her a grooming appointment for her during our trail period and if she stays she's in for her spay a month after being here. We'll hit the lake. She's never been swimming. We're going to fix that!! Drake wouldn't have it any other way. Looking forward to her company.

Well you should know from my profile pic I am a sheltie person! Love the breed. Smart, smart dogs. They also bond very tightly to their people. The coat does not shed but needs work, they will mat. natural herders so mine loved to chase the livestock when they got running, but they know when you are unhappy and will stop when that is not what you want. Will herd children too. Not big on water, don't expect them to be swimmers. Their coats are thick and heavy and not water resistant like a water dog.My Molly used to give me a dirty look when we went for walks and her feet got wet!

I grew up with sheltie. I loved her so gentle and smart. They shed but really comes out in clumps and nothing like how much a lab sheds. She did end up getting a skin condition when she was older and lossed patches of hair. She was the best dog ever...Katie :)

This is her @ her current home. She has seizures. Hasn't had any since last fall and she only had a few in total last year, compared to a few a month in her younger years. Not medicated. As she's aged the seizures have become less and less, vet did she'll out grow.
