Thanks for the link. After reading a bunch of articles online I am not as concerned about the runny nose. The dog is getting up and down fine today. Prednisone is working.

Is Prednisone available OTC

My dog now has a bleeding nose. He is on antibiotics for two weeks but he is bleeding everywhere when he sneezes.

Anything I can do for pain? Human Aspirin etc. I am giving Prednisone every other day per Vet suggestion for other issues.

Prednisone itself can cause nosebleeds, as long term use tends to cause thinning skin and dries out mucous membranes. Not saying that's what the problem is, but it would be awesome if it were that simple :/ You can try vaseline on a q-tip swabbed up each nostril to moisturize, or Afrin spray to constrict the problem blood vessels. As for pain relief, what makes you think he's in pain? Aspirin is fine temporary and short-term, but you want to be sure he actually needs pain relief, because Aspirin WILL worsen bleeding problems. Metacam is lots better for pain and inflammation. Other "people" pain meds should be avoided, and don't EVER give Tylenol.

Dont use aspirin if hes already bleeding it wiill make it worse. Metacam is much better. And acold pack on the nose....and moist air.

Thanks for the advice. I will search out Metacam. The dog was shaking a little bit when he was resting last night, just faintly.
Yeah, the side effects of Prednisone are crazy. However without it, he becomes immobile.

you might be able to give him a little bit less and still get the benefit of it, without as bad side effects...something to ask your vet about anyways. i think you can only get metacam through a vet.
