I had a rescue puppy who would throw up on any trip longer than 15 minutes. We used to put her in a harness and clip it into the seatbelt so she was anchored in one spot. I would put a pile of newspapers beside her, and that made clean-up easier. The problem was resolved when we took her on short car trips very frequently, and she ended up loving the car :).
