Ivermectin is not very effective for flea and tick control, and the dose you'd need to use for some control is risky. There's better, safer stuff.

If you are certain there is no collie of any type in your dog, it will work somewhat. If there is any collie at all in your dogs background you may end up killing it. I don't know if it effective for fleas, but it sure kills ticks on sheep, lice on goats, and ear mites in rabbits and llamas. Good Luck.

Yes, on most dogs...some have a gene that makes ivermectin lethal to the dog. And, it will only kill the ones that bite the dog, and only for a few days, it won't do anything to kill eggs or larvae. It works great as a temporary emergency measure, for instance you have a large, heavily infested dog that you can't muscle into the tub, like my son's King shepherd 2 years ago lol.

I have only seen it used on dogs with mange under a veterinarians supervision. I agree with Robbie better and safer products out there for dogs.

Yep....if your dog has even one copy of the gene that collies have you will kill your dog. With that said other non-collie dogs can use it...but the safety margin is small so accurate dosing is a must and watching out for liver damage too....
Advantage trifexis etc are much safer for dogs and ell tolerated...
Spinosad and milbemycin
Fipronil and methoprene
Usually combos because what works on fleas doesnt necessarily work on ticks. Most tick stuff will work on mites though because theyre related so tick stuff is commonly used for mange.

New product out there (last year) for flea and ticks that is called Nexguard. Semi-soft oral chew, dogs seem to like.

OK thanks guys. I'm going to have a chat with my vet. Don't want to kill the dogs. :)
