liner in nesting boxes

I'm trying something new (for me) in the hens' nesting boxes.
While in Dollarama in the Tools section (if that's what it's called), I found a roll of gray rubber shelf liner for $3.00. An elderly man passing by asked if I was going to do yoga. Tells you how much he knows!
The roll was enough to line the bottom of each the five nesting boxes. I'm hoping it will prevent cracked/dented eggs that land in the middle of a well scratched out nest. And help prevent moisture into the wood below. We'll see how long it lasts.

I also decided to go with fine shavings, this time, under the straw. That seems to be going well. The only thing I ran out of is dried herbs for the nesting boxes, which I mix with the shavings.

It will last about a winter before the middle area where the hens sit gets worn down and flattened, from my experience. The favourite nest box, anyway. The rest lasted a bit longer.

Oh that's the stuff I use in the bottom of my hatcher!

I put straw in the nest, then shavings on top. The eggs stay cleaner.
