Simcoe Show 16 Jan 2016
Show was good yesterday. Al has most of the pictures I took to resize and post. Should be coming soon. No surprise to me that I walked the building twice trying to figure out how to get in .. Then an old man who had come out of another building and having a smoke finally asked if he could help. I can only imagine the laughing that went on between the two of them, at my expense of course. It's all good! I can handle target practice. So you have to slide a big heavy frozen door to get in. Lol. I said to the old man.. What no grand entrance? He snorted a laugh and some of his snotcicles went crashing to the ground. Welcome to Simcoe.
No surprise Barb Dodington had best silkie. Then the best turkey we checked out. Once we got over the face penis and learned its retracting skills and why they have it (thank you gentlemen who explained to us unknowing giggling young fine ladies) I fell in love with turkeys. Barb is a master communicator with turkeys .. We were in stitches!!
There was a female turkey (hen? I do not know turkey lingo) she was so friendly and chatty. I want turkeys. I don't like turkey as a food source, so I gotta sort that out.
Then I saw some ducks. Omg! I need ducks. That will be the first pen I build in the early spring. Saxony .. He/she was beautiful! So I will look up the breed. Muscovys are hideous with their face but I know from having them they are sweet and docile and excellent fly hunters! But one thing I can guarantee is there won't be call ducks. One starts and that's it, all the others, about 50 or so I'd say, started. Tiny little dudes but they make up for their petite size with their calls.
I saw many many breeds. Jersey Giants aren't soooo big when you see them next to Chanteclers. It's very weird to see standard breeds and then walk a few rows down and see the bantam version. A bantam barred rock roosters crow is ummm ... Definitely not what I tolerate every day.
Anyways, I love being able to look at breeds in real time, not on my computer screen. It was a small affair, but lovely!! Glad I went.
Don't beat me up over the mis-spelling of any breeds.
Hope everyone has a good day. I've been told that snow is coming again. Pretty pumped that winter has finally arrived!!
Cheers!!!
