"Workshop to help growers"

Post by KimChick » Thu Feb 23, 2017 7:58 pm

Just saw the article in the Westport Review-Mirror. In the article it says: Farmers and small food processors are invited to the Two Rivers Good Hub on March 8th to learn how to access buyers for their products.
Then again, I'm not sure if anyone on this forum has a large enough flock or farm to warrant this. But there you have it. Just thought I'd share the info that I found.

Kimchick..i don't get the Mirror ( yes, boo hiss, bad me) but i know of the food Hub in Smiths Falls is that the same one?...can you feed a little more info on this... Also, my thought was if you wanted to access buyers for say, meat birds, you would need to find affordable local inspected processors...not too many around...and on the other side, marketing other things like veggies etc can be daunting at best so this could be an interesting few hours to spend.

One of the local Market Gardens in my area sells a "lifestyle" that is appealing.

Their website is not up to date. No mention of an event March 8.

OMG the last update on the review - mirror site was June 2014!

Events/Tours and Coming Up:
Selling Food to Ontario
March 8, 9am-3pm
Workshop to Help Growers, Food Producers find Markets

Farmers and small food processors are invited to the Two Rivers Food Hub on March 8 to learn how to access buyers for their products. The low-cost, one-day Selling Food to Ontario workshop, created by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) is designed to help existing local food growers and producers reach untapped sales channels.

The Two Rivers Food Hub and OMAFRA collaborated on a similar event last year; popular segments from that session will be returning (with updates) and several new modules have been added to make sure there is value for both new and returning participants. Presentations include:
Understanding the Basics of Food Regulation
Costing and Pricing for Profit
Getting Your Product Listed & Keeping It There
Food Trends: Consumer & Industry Expectations
Space is limited for this low-cost workshop ($15/person includes coffee, snacks and a local foods lunch) Register at: http://eastontlocalfood.ca/selling-food-to-ontario/

This from the facebook page.
