Chukar Partridges... All Males!!

Post by JimW » Sun Jan 24, 2016 12:00 pm

Well I bought 4 Chukar Partridges back in the fall, at the time they were not quite full grown. They have grown and filled out now and judging by the bumps on their legs looks like I have 4 males.

Looks like it will be partridge for dinner in the near future.

Here are two of the partridge, 1 plucked, 1 skinned. I had 4 in total, I plucked 2 and skinnd 2. After processing the birds ranged from 480 grams to 520 grams, so just over a pound.

Family Day dinner!!!

I like the size of the processed chukars I will probably buy some more in the spring to see how long it takes to get them to a decent size for slaughtering.

I asked you how big they are dressed on another thread, now I know. That is a perfect size. I'm guessing they taste amazing :)

Plan on cooking them on Monday, should be good.

Bigger than the jumbo quail, so I like that, not sure yet how profilic they are as breeders or how long they take to get to "market size".

There is a hatchery in Quebec that sells them, I plan on ordering a bunch this spring to raise up to see how long they take to grow to a decent size, compared to my Jumbo quail, and also hopefully end up with a group for future breeding.

They look awesome, I'm surprised how thick breasted they are!
