That always seems to be how it goes. poultry shows are a good place to track down breeders. My memory could be faulty, but I believe there were some BEI at OPB... I'm sure I recall seeing pictures, but they might have been black call ducks. If you find someone with drakes to sell, pick up 3 or 4. Or more. Murphys law says if you only have a couple, they'll get eaten, and if you have a dozen, only your best ones will disappear :/

I just put some in the freezer had two many drakes I shown up to OPB and did quite well

WWW - so true... I did hit up the Norwood Fair but there were none available for sale. Checked out Hoard's Station too but struck out as well.

I will keep you in mind for the spring coonhound. Nice looking bird. You are a bit too far away for me but maybe you come east once and awhile..? I see that Performance Poultry carries them so they may be my best bet if I can't get one before laying season.

The two duck BEIs that I have left now put themselves in the pen with the large breeds. I guess they learned. Hopefully they will teach the new ones I get down the road. I'd hate to have to not free range them with the rest. It is nice to see them do their ducky things.

Got one..! Just in time for breeding season. Fingers crossed for a better season this year. This male is a little larger. Lots of green iridescence. I will try and get some pics up soon. He is isolated right now for a while.

does he have the green under the wing?

Unfortunately not. One of my ducks does, so I am hoping that some of the offspring will develop it. We all have to start somewhere. Here is where the genetic questions come in. If I get a male duckling that develops green under the wing and I breed him back to the "mother", will the resulting offspring have better coloration?

I'm aware of the green iridescence being linked to early white colouration in the duck and not to attempt to breed the white out.

Any breeding other breeding tips, let me know!
