New and Learning!

Post by chix4days » Thu Feb 17, 2022 7:15 pm

Hello!

We're new here - we have 25 chickens in total - and one of them lives in the house with us!

About 7 years ago my wife and I started to look into becoming more self sufficient. We started doing research and house hunting, and moved out of downtown Ottawa to outside Smiths Falls going on 4 years ago. In the fall of 2019, we decided to take the plunge and plan to start our flock in the spring. We joked the entire time as we built the coop that everyone would think we got into chickens just because of the pandemic - but that was not the reason, but it did perhaps play a role in the infamous 'chicken math' :)

We have:
  • 5x Red sexlink
  • 6x Azure Blue
  • 2x Columbian Rocks
  • 1x Pencilled Rock
  • 2x White Rocks
  • 3x Blue-laced Red Wyandotte (all 3 are roosters)
  • 2x Cuckoo Maline
  • 4x Midnight Majestry Marans

3 Blue laced red roosters! How did you end up with 3 rooster? Very pretty birds though.

:welcome:
Nice to have some new blood in the neighborhood :coolguy:

We got out of chickens just after the pandemic started after 25 years, great hobby great fun, you can't replace the "home grown" eggs.
Will have many (scrubbed clean) feeders, waterers, heat lamps and whatever else chicken related, available in the spring if you need anything :chicks:

We wanted to add a rooster to our flock, and a pair was available - they grew up together and inseparable so we took them in. We were also given a bonus Wyandotte pullet who turned out not to be a pullet :)
