Hello from Holstein

Post by C Chamberlain » Mon Dec 04, 2017 8:14 am

Hello My Fellow Chicken Keepers!

I started raising meat birds for four years then decided to switch to laying hens. I bought a hen with 5 baby chicks. I was very disappointed as these were not the breed the farmer called them, but a cross of breeds. I should have done more study of the breeds versus taking his word.

I purchased a Pure Blue Ameraucana Breeding Trio 2 years ago from a reputable breeder, who also exhibits his birds at shows and has won on several occasions. Sadly I lost my Blue Rooster and a Blue Hen by a neighbours 2 dogs this summer. We therefore welcomed to the coop our Pure Black Ameraucana Breeding stock. 2 of these hens have won a First and Reserved places in a show by the previous breeder this year. I am learning what it takes to show chickens. Hopefully in 2018 I will be able to exhibit 1 or 2 for fun.

I have 2 bantam hens which are just the cutest little things, but it is the Ameraucana chickens that I am focusing on with breeding and showing..
