Newbie alert

Post by Webber45 » Tue Aug 15, 2017 4:37 am

Hey, all! We might be moving to Cavan and thinking to start my chicken poultry since I'll be having some free time. I'm completely new so be gentle, I'll be lurking around to get some good ideas.

Advice: build a "fort coop" to keep predators out BEFORE you get birds. Build it three times the size you think you need (or at least twice the size) because it will somehow not be big enough.
Do you (or spouse) butcher (process, slaughter) or figure where they will get done before you get birds. Visit many folks with birds and learn from their mistakes rather than making them all yourself. Name them appropriately ("Soup", "Roast", Cutlet, Stir Fry, Cacciatore etc.) so you get it in your mind now that is their ultimate resting place.
